Multi-platinum Group Contributes Three New Tracks Including First Single, 'Make A Move,' Plus Duet With Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Chrissie Hynde
Soundtrack to Sony Pictures' Action-thriller Starring Jamie Foxx, Josh Lucas and Jessica Biel to be Released July 12
NEW YORK, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- A trio of new songs by multi-platinum Epic Records recording artist Incubus will be featured prominently in "Stealth," the action-thriller movie from Sony Pictures due out this summer starring Jamie Foxx, Josh Lucas and Jessica Biel. Director Rob Cohen ("The Fast and the Furious" and "XXX") personally chose Incubus for the soundtrack, which will be released July 12 prior to the movie's July 29 premiere.
Vocalist, Brandon Boyd; guitarist Mike Einziger; drummer Jose Pasillas; bassist, Ben Kenney and turntablist, DJ Kilmore were recuperating from the quintet's recent tour supporting its latest album, "A Crow Left of the Murder," but quickly regrouped to write and record. Working with renowned producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Korn, Rage Against the Machine) this spring, Incubus recorded "Admiration," "Neither of Us Can See" and "Make a Move," the soundtrack's first single. Featured in the trailer for "Stealth"- which will premiere May 18 and play before the new Star Wars movie -"Make a Move" finds Incubus in classic form. "We don't write new music on the road so we hadn't written a shred of new music before we got together for these songs," Boyd says. "We wrote the first song 'Make a Move' really quickly. It's fun and bouncy, but still thoughtful. It reminds me of some of our older songs."
"Neither of Us Can See," a duet with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Chrissie Hynde, will play over the movie's closing credits. The inspiration to use two singers-this is Boyd's first duet-came early in the writing process. "When we were conceptualizing the song, it became obvious that we needed two voices to capture the different facets of this song," Boyd says. "Chrissie came in and added another dimension to the song."
Prior to the "Stealth" soundtrack, Incubus had never written songs specifically for a soundtrack. The experience gave the band a new perspective on songwriting. "We're used to writing a song that brings the thoughts and images in your head to life," Boyd explains. "Writing for a very specific scene is tricky because you want to come up with thoughtful lyrics that touch on the movie but don't come off cheesy. For me, the perfect soundtrack song is Queen's 'Princes of the Universe' from the original 'Highlander' movie. That song becomes such an integral part of the scene and makes the moment more powerful."
Boyd, Einziger and Pasillas formed Incubus in 1991 when they were high school classmates in Calabasas, California. Four years later they recorded "Fungus Amongus," the group's independent debut. "Enjoy Incubus," a six-song EP released in 1997, was the group's major-label debut. Later the same year Incubus released its first full-length, "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." DJ Kilmore joined in 1998. The band's big break came in 1999 with the singles, "Pardon Me," "Stellar" and "Drive" from their second full-length, "Make Yourself," which went double-platinum. The group's third album, "Morning View" was released in 2001, debuted at number two on the album chart and included the radio hits "Wish You Were Here," "Nice to Know You" and "Warning." Kenney joined the band in 2003. The latest from Incubus, "A Crow Left of the Murder" achieved platinum status and was released in 2004.
