The Online Art Society, With a Global Following Topping 1.5 Million, was Lauded in USA TODAY for Helping Artists via Innovative Technology
LOS ANGELES, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The first major event launched by deviantART.com, home to the largest art community in the world, will now be held at one of the most prominent venues in Los Angeles -- The Hollywood Palladium. Frank Sinatra opened the venue back in 1940 and now deviantART will make it legendary again in 2005 as thousands of artists and experts in technology, gaming and publishing converge on the deviantART Summit on June 17 and 18, 2005.
deviantART's CEO/Co-Founder Angelo Sotira is thrilled to be able to bring this summit to realization. "This will be one of the most groundbreaking, innovative art exhibits of our time, bringing the cyberworld and the traditional art scene under one roof. The opportunity to have such an incredible scope of artists from so wide a range of fields all sharing their work together is truly unique."
deviantART.com, which was recently featured in a USA Today "Money" cover story, has 1.5 million members worldwide, hosts more than 12 million pieces of art and harnesses one of the largest audiences on the worldwide web.
The deviantART Summit will be a dynamic art exhibition recreating what takes place on deviantART.com every day, with galleries featuring many kinds of art -- from anime to literature, digital art to flash, photography to pixel art. It will also present artists with the opportunity to learn how to break into the big time with their art, and how to perfect their craft from some of the best in the business.
High profile artists at the top of their game will be teaching workshops at the summit, including the current artist behind Spiderman, Mark Brooks, who will be giving comic illustration tips and showing how Marvel's comics go from a blank page to brilliantly-colorful sequential art. Also, Ryan Odagawa, illustrator for the top selling comic, Resident Evil (based on the hit video game series from Capcom), will share secrets of what it takes to be a pro in the comic book industry and create a book from scratch.
Top-tier celebrity photographer Chris Weeks will relay the voodoo magic that goes into creating a solid lighting setup without spending the cash, while deviantART's top selling artist, Aaron Jasinski, will be instructing a class on developing personal style and finding your unique voice in the noisy world of art.
Panel topics range from "Art on the Fringe: Misinterpreted Artists and Shock Art" to "Digital Tools -- Million Dollar Techniques Without Investing a Fortune." Union Entertainment Co-Founder Sean O'Keefe will lead a panel on "Hollywood: The Art of Gaming and Motion Pictures," sharing his expertise on the process of creating artwork for these industries, which he has done on several major projects, including Frank Miller's Sin City. Also, Dragon*Con director Patrick Roberts will explain how he co-created one of the largest annual Science Fiction and Fantasy themed conventions in the world.
Confirmed sponsors include Adobe, Wacom, Hash Inc., IStockphoto.com, Linspire, Stardock, Dragon*Con, GarageGames, DAZ Productions, BandMerch, depthCORE, e-frontier, End Effect, Phirebrush, 4X6, Naature, Noir, and ToneThis.
The two-day event will cost $55 until May 15 and more details are available at www.deviantartsummit.com.
