Belo Names New General Managers in New Orleans and Spokane
Bud Brown Named President and General Manager of WWL-TV; DJ Wilson Named President and General Manager of KREM-TV/KSKN-TV
DALLAS, May 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE:BLC) announced today that Bud Brown has been named president and general manager of WWL-TV, the Company's CBS affiliate in New Orleans, effective immediately. He succeeds Jimmie Phillips, who has retired from her fulltime position after an extraordinary, 36-year career. Phillips will continue to support Belo as a consultant. Brown has served most recently as president and general manager at KREM-TV(CBS) and KSKN-TV(WB) in Spokane, where he has led KREM to the market's top position in news, revenue and community service after joining the station in 2000. Deborah "DJ" Wilson will become president and general manager at KREM and KSKN in the fall of 2005. She currently serves as vice president and assistant general manager at KING-TV(NBC), KONG-TV(IND) and NorthWest Cable News in Seattle/Tacoma.

Brown began his career at Belo in 1985 as production manager at WVEC-TV in Hampton/Norfolk, Virginia. From 1987 to 1999 he worked as creative services director at four current or former Belo properties: KOTV in Tulsa, WVEC, KIRO-TV in Seattle/Tacoma and KHOU-TV in Houston. He was promoted to vice president and general manager at KOTV in 1999 and moved into his most recent assignment at KREM and KSKN one year later. In January 2005, Brown was named president and general manager for the stations. During the first 10 years of his career before he joined Belo, Brown held a series of production and director positions at WITN-TV in Washington, North Carolina; WWAY-TV in Wilmington, North Carolina; and stations in Winston-Salem and Raleigh, North Carolina, and Providence, Rhode Island.
Brown has won several awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as well as national awards from PROMAX and numerous Advertising Federation Awards. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in speech communications from North Carolina State University.
Wilson assumed her most recent sales and marketing leadership role for Belo's Seattle/Tacoma operations in 2002. She has spent almost 21 years in the Seattle/Tacoma market during her 27-year career in television sales and marketing management. Eight of those years were spent with KING, as vice president/sales and marketing and director/sales and marketing from 1998 to 2002 and as national sales manager and local sales manager from 1991 to 1995. Wilson spent 10 years with KIRO in various sales management positions from 1982 to 1988 and 1974 to 1978. She has also worked as local sales manager at WJBK-TV in Detroit, national sales manager at WAGA-TV in Atlanta, and vice president/sales and marketing at WBRC-TV in Birmingham.
Wilson is on the boards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County and the Pacific Mountain Affiliate of the American Heart Association, the sales advisory committee of the Television Bureau of Advertising and the advisory board for the Edward R. Murrow School of Communications at Washington State University. She is past vice president of the Seattle Advertising Federation and past president of the Marketing Communications Executives International (MCEI). She holds a bachelor's degree in communications from the Murrow School of Communications at Washington State University.
Doug Armstrong, president and general manager at KTVB-TV in Boise, will assume additional duties as acting general manager for Belo's Spokane media operations until Wilson moves into her new role in the fall. Armstrong has led KTVB, the number-one rated television station in Idaho, since 1996.
