Sunrise Telecom Adds SDH/SONET Capabilities to the SunSet MTT Platform

Sunrise Telecom Adds SDH/SONET Capabilities to the SunSet MTT Platform

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sunrise Telecom Incorporated (NASDAQ:SRTI), a leading provider of service verification equipment for telecommunications and cable TV networks, today introduced a new plug-in module, the SDH/SONET module for its SunSet MTT, Modular Test Toolkit platform. This addition strengthens the SunSet MTT family as premier tool kits for the installation and maintenance of access and metropolitan networks worldwide.

The SDH/SONET Module addresses the needs for the installation of international and domestic SDH/SONET as well as PDH/T-carrier links. This module supports applications from 1.5 / 2 Mbit/s up to 2.5 Gbit/s (STM-16/OC-48). It offers complete transmission testing, as well as essential tools such as APS Timing, Pointer Monitoring and adjustment, SDH/SONET overhead control and decode for troubleshooting common problems found during the installation phase of SDH/SONET networks. The PDH/T-carrier interfaces allow the field engineer/technician to verify proper installation and operation of the tributary ports before being mapped/de-mapped to/from SDH/SONET signals.

"With the success of our SunSet MTT platform, adding SDH and SONET capabilities was a normal evolution," states Juan Luis Masmela, Senior Product Manager for Transport Technologies. "We are capitalizing on our Metro success with our Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Channel solutions and offer now the ultimate solution for all-in-one Metro and Access testing."

With more than 30 different test modules, the SunSet MTT platform gives service installers the industry's broadest solution for installing and troubleshooting voice and data wireline access applications. Such applications include T1/E1, T3/E3, SONET/SDH, ISDN, IP, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel, ATM, Datacom, HSSI, x-DSL, OTDR, FTTx and triple play networks. This tool kit provides multi-layer diagnostic solutions -- allowing technicians to easily cross over between troubleshooting the physical, service, and network layers. The platform is inherently modular, offering flexibility for customers as their technology, network architecture, and budget change. This modularity provides a cost-effective solution so that customers can downsize their budget without sacrificing critical testing equipment.

The SDH/SONET module, along with the entire SunSet MTT family will be showcased at CeBit 2005 (March 10 to 16) in Hannover, Germany.
