Sirenza Microdevices Announces Volume Production of Radio Antenna for Satellite Digital Audio Radio System (SDARS)
BROOMFIELD, Colo., March 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sirenza Microdevices, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMDI), a leading designer and an ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System and ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System certified supplier of high performance radio frequency (RF) components for the commercial communications and aerospace and defense (A&D) equipment, today announced the company had begun volume production of its ultra low-profile antenna for digital satellite radio applications. The active antenna, targeted at automotive after-market applications, will initially be packaged with satellite radio receivers manufactured by an Asian radio supplier under an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) arrangement with a leading U.S. digital satellite radio provider.
"The start of volume production of our digital satellite antenna product for SDARS applications is a major milestone in our continued effort to diversify our end markets," stated Robert Van Buskirk, president and CEO of Sirenza Microdevices. "Successfully moving this high-performance, ultra low-profile active antenna through development and product qualification into volume production is a significant achievement and clearly demonstrates our ability to leverage our RF design and manufacturing expertise into broader end markets and applications. We currently expect that our antenna product shipments will reach a significant level starting in the second quarter of this year."
"We are very excited about launching our newly introduced antenna product," stated Don Alfson, vice president of global sourcing for Sirenza and former president of ISG Broadband. "The acquisition and integration of ISG into Sirenza's amplifier division has been well-executed, and this production milestone is a realization of the type of development, product qualification, manufacturing and sales channel synergies we hoped to realize in the combination with Sirenza."
