'Movies for the Masses.org' Independent Film Project Launched!
Independent producers create first-ever Internet site that allows moviegoers to pick what films should be made and contribute to the production
NEW YORK, March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- For moviegoers tired of spending money watching time-wasting films that only a studio head ever wanted made, the creators of "Movies for the Masses.org" are proud to announce a new independent film alternative.
"Movies for the Masses" (http://www.moviesforthemasses.org/) is a unique Web site that allows moviegoers to select from a group of possible full-length indie films in development, and vote for which ones they'd like to see made. Also, any visitor to the site who chooses to contribute funding to their chosen film, whether $1 or $1,000, will receive an "Executive Producer" credit in the film.
"The whole point of the Movies for the Masses project is that before a single frame is shot or a single advertising dollar is spent, there would already be a sizeable audience guaranteed to buy a ticket," said Eugene John Bellida, founder of Movies for the Masses.org.
"Most Hollywood films are basically greenlit on the opinions of one to four people, tops, who are just guessing whether or not a film will have an audience. We will know in advance that ours has one and that is something absolutely no one in Hollywood can say they have," he added.
"We call the idea 'open source filmmaking,'" said Fabrizio Fante, independent producer and co-founder of Movies for the Masses. "We envision our project as a film version of Linux or Wikipedia, where people come together for a common purpose and create a work of art that they're passionate about, and bypass the commercialism and marketing that drives filmmaking today."
Fante added, "How many times have you wasted 20 bucks and two hours of your life on a film that left you wishing you had both your time and money back? Well, you can't fire the studio head who greenlit the project, but with Movies for the Masses, at least now you'll have a say in what films get made."
