WE: Women's Entertainment Presents 'Chasing the Crown' A Behind the Scenes Look at a Beauty Pageant Celebrating Real Women
The Original One Hour Documentary Airs April 10 at 7:00pm ET
JERICHO, N.Y., March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- WE: Women's Entertainment presents a new view of the American beauty pageant with "Chasing the Crown," an original one-hour documentary premiering April 10 at 7:00pm ET. Hosted by Kate Shindle, Miss America 1998, the special takes an inside look at the Ethnic World International Pageant. Abandoning cliches and embracing ethnic beauty the program showcases the cultural diversity and inner beauty of today's woman.
In a country where "thin is in" and "blonde's have more fun" is the rule, the Ethnic World International Pageant provides an outlet for women of all sizes, shapes and colors to showcase their beauty. From the introductory interviews, through the grueling rehearsals, to the excitement of the crowning moment, "Chasing the Crown" follows contestants through a weekend of activities and emotions. In that time viewers get to know beauties like Caressa, Chanel, Jessica and Yvette through candid moments and personal interviews. By pageant day you know the tears and smiles of these women are truly from the heart.
The inaugural Ethnic World International Pageant was held in October of 2004 in Washington DC with sixteen women of color, including African- Americans, Mediterraneans and Hispanics, competing for the crown in three categories -- Ms., Miss and Teen. Pageant founder and organizer Yolanda Makle-Rodriguez created the pageant to promote cultural diversity, tolerance and understanding. And while it's not your mother's traditional pageant, it has become an ideal outlet for America's real women to display their true beauty and character in a welcoming and comfortable environment.
