Thomson Media Announces SecurTech Program for 15th Annual CardTech/SecurTech Conference and Exhibition

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading ID experts from federal government agencies and corporate enterprises will present their experiences with a wide range of logical and physical access technologies at SecurTech during the 15th Annual CardTech/SecurTech (CTST) Conference, April 12 - 14, 2005 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.

The highly interactive three-day conference program will feature more than 70 speakers representing the most innovative providers and users of card technologies. Attendees will hear about the latest advances and market experiences in biometric, smart card, contactless and emerging technologies for authentication and identity management in government, healthcare and business. Richard Clarke, former cyber security advisor to the president of the United States headlines the program with an opening day keynote address. Drawing from his extraordinary experience involving America's decades-long confrontation with terrorism, Mr. Clarke will provide a fascinating insider's look at how the current administration is tackling the potential for terrorist attacks with initiatives such as Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, a mandatory, government-wide standard for secure and reliable forms of identification issued by the federal government to its employees and contractors. Attendees may then choose one, day-long workshop for each of the three days from among eight offered.

Of note is the workshop on federal government ID programs led by Mary Dixon of the Department of Defense. The Department of Defense has issued more than 4 million smart ID cards to military personnel and contractors. The latest standards, specifications and deadlines toward achieving an interoperable, government wide ID card will be shared by panelists Tim Baldridge, computer scientist with the Marshall Space Flight Center; Bill Boggess, chief of the access and authentication program at the Department of Defense; and Perry Tsacoumis, project manager, Northrup Grumman. Agency case studies will instruct on interoperability requirements and best practices for implementing smart card, biometrics and other security technologies with sensitivity to privacy issues.

Biometrics is one of the fastest growing security sectors. Experts will explain how their organizations are utilizing finger, iris, facial, hand and voice recognition biometrics; how they're integrating logical and physical access and abating legacy issues. Rick Lazarick, who heads airport security technology integration for the Transportation Security Administration, will summarize the Department of Transportation's biometrics report, the largest independent review of all iris scan technologies. Pete Boden, director of IT security at Microsoft Corp. and Allen Rude, manager of corporate security systems for Intel, present enterprise case studies in integration.

The full workshop list is as follows: "Foundations of Card Technology for Security" led by Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance; "The Wave: RFID and Contactless Security Technology" led by Jeff Staples, founder of Avisan, publisher of several identification technology journals; "Government ID: New Mandates, Specs and Deadlines" led by Mary Dixon, director, access card office, Department of Defense; "Biometrics for Access Security" led by Raj Nanavati, partner, International Biometric Group; "Foundations of Access Security" led by Rene Bastien, solution architect, Hewlett-Packard; "A Global Revolution: Large Scale ID Technology" led by Zack Martin, editor, ID Newswire; "Convergence of Logical and Physical Security" led by Ray Bernard, principal, Ray Bernard Consulting and "Wide Area Workflow: Doc Security and Authentication" led by Henry Dreifus, chief executive officer, Dreifus Associates. As many as six speakers/panelists will participate in each workshop.

New this year is the CTST Technology Pavilion and lunchtime TechTours, located on the exhibit floor, showcasing innovative smart card, biometric, contactless/RFID authentication technologies. The exhibition hall hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Nearly 100 companies will exhibit. The full program agenda and registration information is available at http://www.ctst.com/.
