Scientific-Atlanta Chosen to Supply Fiber Optics and Headend for Teleinform Cable System Upgrade

Scientific-Atlanta Chosen to Supply Fiber Optics and Headend for Teleinform Cable System Upgrade

KORTRIJK, Belgium and ATLANTA, February 7/PRNewswire/ -- Teleinform, one of Moscow's largest privately owned cable operators with
400.000 subscribers, has chosen Scientific-Atlanta to supply a sweeping range
of transmission products for use in a major upgrade to its cable system.

As Teleinform began its network upgrade, it chose Scientific-Atlanta's
amplifiers for the combination of performance and value they deliver. With a
fiber optic network already in place in much of its Moscow service area,
Teleinform also deployed a Scientific-Atlanta(R) Prisma II(TM) optical
platform along with the system's compact nodes. With virtually all of its
customers in multiple dwelling units (MDUs), Teleinform wanted to capitalize
on the bandwidth efficiency and service reliability of talking fiber to the
premise. To help meet this objective, Teleinform selected
Scientific-Atlanta's fiber deep nodes and has deployed approximately 1,500 of
the units.

"The final step in our network upgrade was to work with
Scientific-Atlanta to create a new digital headend for delivering digital
services to our customers," said Vladimir Telesov, General Director at
Teleinform. "Scientific-Atlanta's extensive experience in digital cable
operations, the reliability and service capabilities supported by their
headend solution and the depth of their technical expertise in fiber deep
technology and deployments have been valuable assets to simplify many of the
steps for us as we work toward completion of this complex undertaking."

Scientific-Atlanta's extensive product portfolio played a major role in
its selection by Teleinform. According to George Stromeyer, vice president
and managing director, EMEA, at Scientific-Atlanta Europe NV, "As many
operators across Europe are discovering, there is great value in working with
Scientific-Atlanta as its single source supplier, especially when your
business plan contains multiple steps that each require some unique
solutions. This network upgrade is a significant success story for both
Teleinform and Scientific-Atlanta. It helps provide Teleinform's customers
with more reliable, expanded services, and represents another strategic win
for Scientific-Atlanta in the region."
