NextHop GateD Routing Software Helps Kentrox Deliver Business-Class Network Routing Functionality to Small and Medium Business Customers

NextHop GateD Routing Software Helps Kentrox Deliver Business-Class Network Routing Functionality to Small and Medium Business Customers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- NextHop(TM) Technologies(R) Inc., the definitive source for network routing software solutions, today announced that high-speed network access equipment maker Kentrox(R) had licensed and integrated NextHop's GateD(R) routing software into its Q-Series QoS access routers. Ease of integration with the GateD code allowed Kentrox to go from development to market in under six months and resulted in saving development and testing costs. Kentrox licensed NextHop's GateD OSPv2, and BGP-4 routing protocols to provide business quality routing capabilities in its Q-Series products.

Using NextHop GateD routing protocols Kentrox developed Q-Series access routers that combine the functions of a high performance IP (Internet protocol) router, QoS (quality of service) and VPN (Virtual Private Network) appliances, firewall, WAN (wide area network) access device and Ethernet switch, all in one box. This product provides all-in-one business solutions for branch offices and small to medium businesses (SMB). Its graphical user interface (GUI) makes installation and configuration faster and easier for both network administrators and inexperienced installers, all at an affordable price of under $1,000.

"Kentrox wanted full business-class software that would help us provide business quality routing capability in an SMB, all-in-one package. NextHop GateD proved to be the premier solution for our requirements. We were very pleased with the ease with which the product integrated with the rest of the code," said Gus Noelcke, vice president of engineering at Kentrox.

"We have been focused on the enterprise networking market for some time and Kentrox is a rapidly growing force in this market. Kentrox applied stringent requirements to meet their customers needs and went through an extensive build versus buy analysis before selecting NextHop's off-the-shelf version of GateD," said Dennis Tsu, vice president of marketing at NextHop. "Their success in developing a cost-effective, highly functional product that fully meets their customer needs is exciting."

About GateD Software

Over the last 18 years, more than 150 network equipment manufacturers, including leading networking companies such as Avici Systems, Check Point Software Technologies, Enterasys Networks, Hitachi, HP, Huawei Technologies, Juniper Networks, Lockheed Martin, Lucent Technologies, Northrop Grumman, Nortel Networks, Riverstone Networks and Thomson, have used GateD(R) to provide IP (Internet Protocol) routing functionality in their products. They have chosen GateD because it is the most memory efficient, fastest, scalable, inter-operable, and reliable set of routing and MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching), software available on the market.

GateD networking software has four major components today -- L3 routing, MPLS, Layer 2 switching, and a management framework (including a CLI, Command Line Interface). These software components can be used together or separately to build networking equipment for the service provider/carrier market, the large enterprise market, or the SOHO/consumer market. NextHop's GateD software solutions cover both IPv4 and IPv6 networking. GateD IPv6 routing software has been leading the market for over seven years. Combined, these four components make up the broadest range of networking software solutions available on the market.
