Kaplan K12 Sweeps Software Industry Finalist Honors in All Three of Its Nominated Categories in The Codie Awards

Kaplan's Achievement Planner and Kaplan's Study Skills Online Named Among Best in Class by Independent Panel of Expert Judges

NEW YORK, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Two products developed by Kaplan K12 Learning Services, a unit of Kaplan, Inc. which provides supplemental services programs, student curricula, assessment tools, and professional development to underserved school districts, beat out nearly 30 other nominees to earn finalist honors in three distinct categories of the prestigious Software & Information Industry Association's (SIIA) Codie Awards. In all, more than 1,000 nominations were submitted by over 800 companies for the 2005 awards -- a record-breaking year.

Kaplan's Achievement Planner, a Web-based system that enables teachers and administrators to improve teaching through technology, was recognized as one of the top products in both the "Best Classroom Instructional Management Solution" and the "Best Student Test Preparation or Assessment Solution" categories. Kaplan's Study Skills Online, which gives students interactive lessons that introduce them to a variety of techniques for studying, learning and testing, was lauded as a leader in the "Best Secondary Education Instructional Solution" group.

In its 20th year, SIIA's annual Codie Awards are the longest-running awards program in the software industry and showcase the top products and services created by software, information and education companies. A panel of judges comprised of distinguished industry leaders and education experts put the thousands of products submitted for consideration through a rigorous review process in order to select the finalists and ultimately the winners. Winners will be announced at the annual Codie awards gala on May 25, 2005 at Universal Studios' Globe Theater in Universal City, CA.

"The Achievement Planner and Study Skills Online serve as critical tools in furthering our goal of partnering with educators to increase student success. Study Skills Online motivates students through dynamic Web-based lessons and Achievement Planner empowers teachers to accurately assess student performance and respond with plans that yield measurable results," said Stuart Udell, president of Kaplan K12 Learning Services. "We're thrilled that the SIIA has named both of these offerings as finalists, particularly as there are so many high-caliber products in the three categories. The Codies have long been seen as a significant tribute and we're honored to receive the recognition."
