Jeff Daniels Brings 'Live and Unplugged' Concert to Jackson's Michigan Theatre

Jeff Daniels Brings 'Live and Unplugged' Concert to Jackson's Michigan Theatre

CHELSEA, Mich., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Actor, musician, songwriter Jeff Daniels will return to Jackson's historic Michigan Theatre for a final "Live and Unplugged" concert performance, Saturday, Feb. 12, at 8:00 p.m. The 90- minute concert, a collection of humorous and moving songs written by Daniels, will benefit the Purple Rose Theatre Company (PRTC) and Michigan Theatre, both not-for-profit organizations.

Daniels, who recently completed ten sold out "Unplugged" concerts at the PRTC for the fourth consecutive year, says he's looking forward to performing at the Michigan Theatre before he returns to his day job.

"We've had a lot of good times doing these concerts," says Daniels. "The personal interaction with the audience brings a different dynamic every night, and the Michigan Theatre is a great venue. But duty calls. And I've got to get back to work," he says, referring to new movie roles he's recently accepted.

Last fall Daniels released his first ever CD, "Jeff Daniels Live and Unplugged to Benefit the Purple Rose Theatre," and recently concluded a statewide, promotional media tour which included more than 50 media interviews and appearances. Some of the songs featured on the CD, which will also be performed at the concert, date back as far as the late 1970s; some are less than a year old, but they are all reflections of Daniels' life and career.

"For 30 years I've been playing, but it was always just a hobby -- something I did to relax," says Daniels. "I've written over 250 songs. They are my diary," he says.

"And that diary has very funny entries, and some surprisingly tender ones as well," says the CD's producer, Steve Curran, president, Harvest Music + Sound Design, Lansing.

Curran says the CD kicks off with "If William Shatner Can, I Can Too," which pokes fun at celebrities who try to be musicians. Daniels also describes the joy of being killed by Clint Eastwood in "The Dirty Harry Blues," and bares his heart in "Kathy," painting a picture of the first date he had with his future wife. Daniels' new song, "Fashionably Late," written on behalf of men everywhere, tells the story of waiting for a date to come downstairs. He also includes an updated version of his lament for his favorite baseball team, "The Lifelong Tiger Fan Blues," and "Blue Valiant," a song about everyone's first car.

"Jeff is unbelievably dedicated and spends a great deal of personal time raising funds for the Purple Rose," says Curran. "He doesn't make a dime on the CD or any of the 'Unplugged' concerts, but does it out of love for the performing arts."

Tickets for "Jeff Daniels Live and Unplugged" at the Michigan Theatre are available for $30 and $50 by calling the Michigan Theatre at 517-783-0962 and the PRTC at 734-433-7673.
