Interwoven Seizes Legal Market Leadership With Strong Worldwide Customer Acquisition in 2004

Top Law Firms and Corporate Legal Departments Adopt Matter-Centric Approach to Document and E-mail Management, Improving Organizational Efficiencies and Risk Mitigation

NEW YORK, LegalTech Conference (booth # 2020), Feb. 1
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Interwoven, Inc. (NASDAQ:IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, today announced that it has achieved market share leadership in both the Amlaw 100 and 200 for collaborative document management (CDM) with record customer conversions in 2004. Leading law firms and corporate legal departments across the globe are adopting Interwoven WorkSite 8's unique matter-centric collaboration (MCC) approach to address key business process challenges such as document management, collaboration, and e-mail management.

In 2004, Interwoven added approximately 130 new law firm customers and replaced competitive systems at 43 law firms and corporate legal departments, representing nearly 19,000 users. At the end of Q4, Interwoven's customers included 54 of the AmLaw 100 and 102 of the AmLaw 200, which are the 100 and 200 largest U.S. law firms as ranked by "American Lawyer" magazine.

Stinson Morrison & Hecker LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm, selected Interwoven software over competitive offerings because of WorkSite's leading e-mail management capabilities. Said Athelen Gieseman, CIO at Stinson Morrison & Hecker, "Interwoven's approach to e-mail management clearly stands out from the competition. Interwoven's drag-and-drop features which enable e-mail to be automatically profiled is a huge benefit for us. Attorneys don't have time to profile the large quantities of e-mail they receive, and by making this an automatic process, Interwoven is enabling us to focus on what we do best -- providing our clients with unmatched service."

In the UK, according to a December 15th report by "Legal Technology" magazine ( http://www.legaltechnology.com/ ), Interwoven increased its market share in the top 200 UK law firms from 39 to 57 firms, while its closest competitor decreased share from 48 to only 38 firms, making Interwoven the market share leader in this key market as well.

One WorkSite 8 customer that recently converted from a competitive offering is Pinsents Masons, a top UK legal firm. "We felt that WorkSite 8 would be easier, faster and less costly to move to than upgrading our existing system," said Colin Smith, director of Information Technology at Pinsents Masons. "I am very happy to report that we converted 1000+ users and 6 offices in 60 days. The project has been a great success and we switched the whole firm over in one weekend. I would strongly recommend that any firm considering upgrading from PC Docs should consider WorkSite 8."

Taylor Wessing, another top UK law firm, recently selected Interwoven WorkSite 8 as its document management system. "This is a significant step forward in our process of integration," said Gary Moss, international integration partner at Taylor Wessing. "The Interwoven WorkSite 8 software will enable us to manage more effectively our documentation on a multi-jurisdictional basis and enhance our ability to provide seamless, cross-border service to our clients."

In Asia Pacific, Interwoven won leading law firms in 2004 such as Clayton Utz, Maddocks, and WongPartnership, one of the largest law firms in Singapore. "WorkSite has a strong reputation in the legal industry worldwide as a solid document management system, is user-friendly with minimal learning curve required of our users, and has the scalability and flexibility to grow along with our firm," said Kevin Koh, IT manager at WongPartnership.

In 2004, 27 corporate legal departments selected Interwoven WorkSite including Echostar Satellite LLC; PalmSource; Lincoln Financial Group; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Masachussetts; and DuPont.

"In order to implement key initiatives like e-mail management, matter centricity and business continuity, law firms and corporate legal departments using competing products must make a significant upgrade in their document management infrastructure," said Chris Junker, general manager and vice president, legal sales at Interwoven. "We are gratified that a record number of customers using legacy systems are joining many other firms and legal departments in selecting WorkSite for its advanced features, proven scalability and track record for rapid deployment and customer satisfaction. This strong momentum is further proof that Interwoven is delivering a superior solution for the legal and professional services market."

Interwoven WorkSite 8 is based on a unique paradigm known as matter-centric collaboration. MCC represents a user-centric design, which, for the first time, enables lawyers and other professional services practitioners to manage matter-related content in the electronic world the way they have done for more than 100 years in the physical world. MCC creates the true electronic equivalent of a case file by consolidating documents, e-mails, billing, contacts, and all other relevant content for any given matter in a single integrated file that is accessible both internally and externally across departments and locations. The e-mail management capabilities of WorkSite 8 provide automatic and simplified user-controlled methods, which streamline and automate the filing of e-mails and documents into dedicated "matter" folders. As a result, organizations can keep track of hundreds of thousands of e-mails as the WorkSite 8 solution makes them readily available in the document management system.
