CSC Wins $34 Million Modernization Task Order From IRS

CADE Upgrade Expands Number of Taxpayers in System and Accommodates Tax Law Changes

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE:CSC) announced today that it has received a $34 million task order from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to perform work on the next phase of the Customer Account Data Engine (CADE) project. CADE, the cornerstone of the IRS' Business Systems Modernization program, will eventually replace the agency's antiquated Individual Master File system and become the single database for account and tax return data.

Under the new task order, CSC will roll out CADE software releases scheduled for delivery in July and December 2005. The July release includes new capabilities that will enable CADE to process and retain more taxpayer accounts. The December release will accommodate changes in tax law, as well as increase the number of taxpayers served by CADE.

The data engine project is being developed in phases and will be implemented over several years, with releases scheduled for delivery in six-month periods. Each successive release will enable CADE to process more complex taxpayer account information.

CADE began processing selected returns in July 2004, the middle of the IRS tax filing season. This year, for the first time in more than 40 years, taxpayer returns will be processed on the new modernized system during the beginning of the season, which is traditionally when most Americans file their returns. CADE expects to process two million 1040EZ returns during the 2005 filing season.
