CBS News Turns to Knowledge Networks to Deliver 'Instant' Public Feedback on State of the Union Speech
Results Featured in Network's Post-Speech Analysis
MENLO PARK, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- CBS News has once again tapped Knowledge Networks (KN) to obtain almost immediate, highly accurate public reaction to a major news event -- in this case, President George W. Bush's State of the Union address last night.
"Knowledge Networks offers CBS News high-quality public-opinion data that we can use almost immediately, to deliver feedback about the nation's response to important news events," said Kathy Frankovic, Director of Surveys for CBS News. "We have worked with Knowledge Networks since 2000 to study numerous high-profile political events. Knowledge Networks has given us the combination of almost instant response and statistically valid data."
A total of 841 members of KN's Internet research panel answered surveys via the Internet both before and immediately after watching the State of the Union address. KN findings were featured during CBS News's post-speech analysis.
Questions in the survey touched on such key national issues as the U.S.'s present and future role in Iraq. The data show that:
* Viewers of the address overwhelmingly (80% versus 20%) approve of the
proposals the President described in his speech; however, many viewers
remain skeptical that he will be able to enact his proposals. Only
41% agreed that the President would be able to accomplish all the goals
that he set out in his speech.
* The President convinced some doubters that he "has a clear plan for
dealing with the situation in Iraq"; before the speech, 44% agreed he
had a clear plan, while 58% said so after hearing the President's
speech.
Knowledge Networks provided similar surveys for CBS News, during the 2000 and 2004 Presidential Debates and for several State of the Union addresses since 2001.
Knowledge Networks maintains the only Internet research panel based on a nationally representative Random Digit Dial (RDD) sample of the U.S. population. If a person selected for the sample does not have Internet access, KN enables his or her access. The KN system is especially valuable for assessing multimedia content, such as commercials and television broadcasts.
Knowledge Networks delivers quality you can use -- superior methodologies, design, and analysis that give you an edge when it comes to understanding consumers and making business decisions. KN's unmatched consumer research resources include the only projectable Web-based consumer panel. The company leverages its expertise in brands, media, advertising, and analytics to provide insights that speak directly to clients' most important marketing issues. In addition, Knowledge Networks has built a substantial practice in government and academic research, an area notable for its rigorous methodology standards.
