Activision's 'Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Presents Boom Boom HuckJam' to Air During Fox NFL Sunday's Super Bowl XXXIX Pre-Game Show
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sports fans are getting a bonus hour of high-flying action on Super Bowl Sunday with the debut of "Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Presents Boom Boom HuckJam," an action sports event program sponsored by video game publisher Activision, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATVI). The one-hour special will air on Sunday, February 6 at 12 p.m. EST as a part of the coveted Fox NFL Sunday's Super Bowl XXXIX pre-game programming. The "Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Presents Boom Boom HuckJam" show was taped at the Glendale Arena in Phoenix, Arizona on January 14, 2005.
Featuring performances by pro skateboarders Tony Hawk, Bam Margera, Andy Macdonald, Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist, Sergie Ventura and Lincoln Ueda, BMX athletes Mat Hoffman, Jamie Bestwick, Kevin Robinson, Dennis McCoy, and John Parker, as well as top talent from motocross like freestyle bikers Brian Deegan, Ronnie Faisst, Dustin Miller and Drake McElroy, the Boom Boom HuckJam is the world's only action sports and music choreographed live-action touring event. At the heart of the show is a $1 million ramp system, which includes a massive half-pipe encircled by a motocross track, enabling motocross riders to launch over the skate ramp. In 2003 Hawk and his comrades added the Loop of Death to their ramp system, which also features a 30-foot freefall ramp.
Since its introduction in 1999, Activision's Tony Hawk franchise has remained one of the three largest sports video game franchises in the world. In 2004, the company launched the sixth game in the series, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, which was among the top 10 best-selling video games in North America for the year, according to NPD Funworld. The game, which was hailed as "the pinnacle of the series and a must for fans" by Game Informer magazine, catapults players into an all-out skating blitzkrieg led by skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and Bam Margera, the star of MTV's "Jackass" and "Viva La Bam." In the game, players are challenged to conquer sick terrain, wreak havoc and pull off mischievous pranks on and off their boards, as they embark on a crazy adventure where they make a variety of international cities their personal stomping grounds.
