TELLURIDE, Colo., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- X Game medallists Tenja Frieden and Seth Wescott trained this week in Telluride Ski Resort's newly designed Air Garden Superpipe for the upcoming Aspen X Games. With 18 ft. walls and 400 ft. of usable area, the Olympic designed pipe is the perfect playground and training park for four-time X Games medallist Wescott and two-time medallist Frieden.
Seth Wescott shushed down mountains by the age of eight and raced for several years until 1989 when the snowboarding bug bit him hard. In 1996 Wescott gave up racing to devote all his time to riding superpipe and soon became on of the nation's premier SBX riders. Wescott's accomplishments include; second place at 2004 Japan World Cup, 2003 World Championship silver medallist, three-time SBX national champion and four-time medallist at X Games. Wescott is currently the World Snowboard Champion after winning in Whistler earlier this month.
Tanja Frieden grew up in Thun, Switzerland and realized her passion for snowboarding at a young age. In 1997, Frieden competed in her first snowboarding event and set a goal of becoming the best in her class after placing second in Boarder-X 2000 European championships. Frieden placed fifth at the World Cup in Whistler and is a hopeful for a third metal and this year's X Games.
"We are thrilled to have such high caliber athletes using our Superpipe," said Jeff Proteau vice president of mountain operations. "Our mountain operations staff has worked round-the-clock to create a state-of-the-art park for skiers and riders of all abilities, from beginner to Olympic level status."
Located on the Butterfly run, the new Superpipe adds a new dimension to the top-of-the-line jibs, fun boxes and redesigned jumps of the Telluride's Air Garden Terrain Park. For more information on Telluride Ski Resort & the Air Garden, please visit http://www.tellurideskiresort.com/.
