WTAE Celebrates Winterfest at Seven Springs

WTAE Celebrates Winterfest at Seven Springs

CHAMPION, Pa., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- WTAE TV, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, and Seven Springs Mountain Resort have been holding Winterfest for 18 years. The tradition will continue with the latest edition January 29 to February 6, 2005.

This celebration of winter is an annual event that showcases all types of ski races, games and other fun distractions that help everybody enjoy the cold temperatures, deep snow and even the short days! Everything from slalom races to silly challenges and other activities on the slopes quenches the thirst for thrills for those who ski or snowboard.

All of the "buzz" in the resort's expansive Main Lodge cures those who are just looking to break their cabin fever. Guests enjoy a craft and artisan show on the weekends, in addition to children's games and other attractions seven days a week at Seven Springs.

Of course, Celebrity Olympics is one of the most popular events of the festival. WTAE TV personalities are pitted against each other in a heated competition for the coveted Winterfest Gold medal. Some of Pittsburgh's most popular news personalities compete in an Olympic-like competition that includes silly competitions like a tug-o-war, snowshoe races and other crazy challenges.

Another event on the schedule is the Great Media Race. This ski race will occur on Saturday, February 5, and will feature teams from various media entities, such as the Post Gazette, Tribune Democrat, WDVE radio and several others. Of course WTAE personalities will also make up several teams. The Great Media Race is a fun race that takes place in front of the Ski Lodge, but most importantly it benefits Project Bundle Up. A new event has been developed this year to allow the general public to help raise money for Project Bundle Up too. Skiers and snowboarders, who want to take a run on the NASTAR ski race course between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on February 5, can try and match WTAE Meteorologist Mike Brookins' time and win great prizes. Their entry fee will benefit Project Bundle Up.

Seven Springs Mountain Resort is Pennsylvania's largest ski and year-round resort. The readers of SKI magazine have recently rated Seven Springs the number one resort in the Mid-Atlantic region for the ninth consecutive year. Located in Champion, the resort is easily accessible from either exit 91 or 110 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
