Tribe.net Hits 10,000 Recommendations in San Francisco Making it the City's Largest Online Resource for Local Knowledge
Online Destination Passes CitySearch and Yahoo! for the Most Recommendations in San Francisco for Everything From Restaurants, Clubs and Local Bands to Doctors, Hair Salons and Mechanics
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribe.net, a free online destination where local people can connect with each other about what to do, where to go, places to live, jobs, services and shared interests, reached its 10,000th recommendation in San Francisco, making it the city's largest local online resource for such information. Tribe.net now offers more local restaurant recommendations in San Francisco than Web giants CitySearch and Yahoo!.
The actual 10,000th listing, submitted by 32-year old Bay Area resident Patsy, was for Habana, a Cuban restaurant in Russian Hill.
The recommendation reads as follows: "KILLER MOJITOS: On a first date -- and on a mission to find the best Mojito in San Francisco -- the fourth bar we stumbled into was Habana on Van Ness. We immediately felt like we'd been transported to Cuba -- lush plants, great hot Cuban music, excellent friendly bartender, and the finest Mojito of my life. Not just a lucky drink, but assembled with the best rums, a special homemade boiled sugar mix and just the right amount of lime and mint. To die for! Didn't try the food but it looked great and will definitely return for the ambiance."
Other recommendations just prior to the 10,000th included a Swedish masseuse (Deep Swedish Massage By Jenn in the East Bay), a pizza parlor (Patxi's in Palo Alto), a chocolate retailer (Cacao Anasa Luxury Chocolates in San Francisco) and an electrical contractor (New Century Electric in Oakland).
"After seven short months we are able to offer San Francisco consumers more restaurant recommendations than CitySearch, which has been in the market for almost 8 years," said Mark Pincus, co-founder and CEO of tribe.net. "Tribe.net also helps people discover new places because our reviews come from real people you can get to know. If you go to Zagat, you find the usual suspects and expense account restaurants; if you go to Yahoo! Local, you find Burger King listed as one of the top restaurants in San Francisco. But if you go to tribe.net, you can find a killer Mojito, movie theaters that serve vegan food, a gentle dentist and the best burrito in town."
To celebrate this milestone, tribe.net will be hosting an event on Thursday, February 3, at The Rickshaw Stop, which is one of the more highly rated venues on tribe.net. San Francisco tribe.net members will be attending, with local bands rated on tribe.net performing throughout the night.
