President Clinton to Thank Philadelphians, Restaurateur Stephen Starr and KYW Newsradio for Fundraising Effort

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, January 24, the city's leading restaurateur, Stephen Starr, will donate the net proceeds from all thirteen of his restaurants to the UNICEF Tsunami Water & Sanitation Fund, to respond to the immediate and long-term needs caused by the devastating tsunami on December 26. President Clinton, who is leading this UNICEF effort, has videotaped a heartfelt message to all of the people attending this event and its creators, which will air at each restaurant throughout the evening.

After covering costs, Starr will donate the evening's entire profits to UNICEF. To encourage people to dine out that evening, KYW Newsradio is promoting the special night to help make it a sellout event, and will broadcast live from Buddakan.

Hifi House, the region's leading supplier of exclusive high-end consumer electronics, will supply and install plasma screen televisions at each of Starr's 13 restaurants to show the special address.

"We hope that everyone will enjoy their night out with family and friends, knowing that their evening serves a greater purpose," says Starr. "We already have an incredible amount of reservations, and some of the restaurants are almost sold out, but we still have a few seats at Striped Bass, Morimoto and Barclay Prime."

To make a reservation for dinner, contact: Continental Restaurant and Martini Bar, 138 Market Street, (215) 923-6069; Buddakan, 325 Chestnut Street, (215) 574-9440; Tangerine, 232 Market Street, (215) 627-5116; Pod, 3636 Sansom Street, (215) 387-1803; Alma de Cuba, 1623 Walnut Street, (215) 988-1799; Morimoto, 723 Chestnut Street, (215) 413-9070; Jones, 700 Chestnut Street, (215) 223-5663; Angelina, 706 Chestnut Street, (215) 925-6889; El Vez, 121 South 13th Street, (215) 928-9800; Striped Bass, 1500 Walnut Street, (215) 732-4444; Washington Square, 210 West Washington Square, (215) 592- 7787; Continental Mid-town, 1801 Chestnut Street, (215) 567-1800; Barclay Prime, 237 South 18th Street, (215) 732-7560.

Profits from special $30 prix-fixe dinners at Starr's five restaurants participating in Center City Restaurant Week, which include Alma de Cuba, Angelina, El Vez, Tangerine and Washington Square, will also benefit UNICEF. At Buddakan, Starr is also offering guests a one-of-a-kind CD compilation of music heard at the restaurant. All proceeds from sales of the $12 CD, which can only be purchased at Buddakan, will also be donated to UNICEF.
