Company Announces Change in Member Sales and Marketing Management
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PlanetOut Inc. (NASDAQ:LGBT) today announced the appointment of Eric Wilson to the position of Vice President, International Subscription Services with responsibility for expanding PlanetOut's sales and operations in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Wilson returns to PlanetOut, where he held similar positions from 1999 - 2001 with one of PlanetOut's predecessor companies, PlanetOut Corp., prior to its merger with Online Partners, parent company of flagship brand, Gay.com.
"Eric brings a breadth of experience and leadership in corporate and business development, strategic business planning and global sales and operations back to PlanetOut," said PlanetOut Chairman and CEO Lowell Selvin. "Eric has deep experience and knowledge of our business which will allow him to hit the ground running as we ramp up our global expansion efforts in 2005. We're pleased and excited to welcome Eric back into the fold."
Prior to joining PlanetOut Corp. in August 1999, Wilson was vice president, e-business practice at Sapient Corporation, a leading provider of strategic consulting, creative and systems integration services, where he led staff development and resource planning for all e-business teams in 10 offices worldwide. Wilson was also senior vice president at Studio Archetype, Inc., one of the world's leading design firms, prior to its acquisition by Sapient.
In an unrelated move, the company also announced the resignation of Jeff Titterton, senior vice president, member sales and marketing. Titterton, who is resigning to attend to family matters, will depart the company over a four- month transitional period. Titterton joined PlanetOut in November 2000 along with the acquisition of Kleptomaniac.com, the company's e-commerce website, where he served as marketing director.
"Under Jeff's leadership, PlanetOut's subscription services business has seen dramatic growth, growing from its infancy to more than 118,000 subscribers in the three and a half years he managed the business," Selvin said. "Jeff's passion, dedication and intelligence will be missed. We understand that he feels the need to focus his abundant energy and talent on his family at this time. We hope, like Eric Wilson, that Jeff will find his way back to PlanetOut one day."
The company has launched a search for Titterton's replacement. In conjunction with this transition, the company also announced it has shifted consumer marketing responsibilities to Donna Gibbs, senior vice president of marketing and communications, who joined PlanetOut in July 2004, following 20 years experience with some of the world's best-known brands including Nike, Mattel Toys, Microsoft and Apple Computer.
