Predictions for 2005: E-learning Visionaries Share Their Thoughts

Predictions for 2005: E-learning Visionaries Share Their Thoughts

eLearn Magazine Places e-Learning Technology in Perspective

NEW YORK, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- How will e-learning evolve in 2005? Lisa Neal, Editor-in-Chief of eLearn Magazine (http://elearnmag.org/ ), asked visionaries from industry, academia, and government for their predictions. The published results point to the idea that in the near future, e-learning will further reflect and influence the best of digital culture as it exists in 2005. That may lead to courses and programs that incorporate the immersive qualities of video games, function in a manner similar to a typical Google search, and appeal to a truly diverse online community of learners. And open source alternatives to traditional tools for creating courseware may soon revolutionize the entire e-learning industry.

Author Don Norman (The Design of Everyday Things) predicts that the infusion of clever educational toys for children could influence devices for adults; e-learning guru Elliott Masie foresees "the destruction of the course" in favor of more immediate, need-specific learning; and Japan's Masaaki Kurosa emphasizes the need for "culturally sensitive e-learning." Other key topics include intellectual property, quality of learning, and the new influence of blogs on education.

Contributors to the article include representatives from Nielsen Norman Group, IBM, Booz Allen Hamilton, Universities from the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Japan and Government agencies such as the National Research Council, Canada.
