National Semiconductor's WEBENCH Toolset Named a Finalist in EDN Magazine's 15th Annual Innovation of the Year Awards

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National Semiconductor's WEBENCH(R) Online Design Environment has been selected from a field of hundreds as a finalist for EDN Magazine's Innovator/Innovation Awards. Instituted in 1990, the Innovation Awards honor the people, products and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year.

National Semiconductor's WEBENCH Active Filter Designer was selected in the EDA (electronic design automation) category based on the following criteria: It is a powerful online design tool that speeds the creation of sophisticated filters for data acquisition and signal conditioning applications. Designed from the ground up, the tool lets engineers design advanced, highly customized filters for all standard filter types: low pass, high pass, band pass and band stop. To view a demonstration showing how to create a 9th order low-pass filter with Bessel response in seconds, see http://filterdemo.national.com/.

"Using the WEBENCH Active Filter Designer, any engineer can create a highly complex theoretical filter in minutes and implement it with highly accurate real-world models moments later," said Phil Gibson, vice president of National Semiconductor's Corporate Marketing group. "Engineers can sample the amplifiers, download the automatically generated documentation, design today, and use the custom assembly diagram to build a filter tomorrow."

Selection Criteria

Nominees for the Innovation of the Year category must have demonstrated innovation that resulted in a significant advance in technology and/or product development during the past 12 months and must have shipped in volume in the 2004 calendar year.

"As the saying goes, many are called, but few are chosen. Our technical editors have done outstanding work on the difficult task of identifying the finalists. The differences in the products EDN covers are often subtle and tricky to flush out," said EDN Editor-in-Chief John Dodge. "Congratulations to all the finalists on a job well done."

In the next few weeks, EDN's worldwide audience of electronics engineers and engineering managers will use an online ballot to select the ultimate winners from among these finalists. EDN's editorial staff and the EDN Editorial Advisory Board also take part in determining the final winners. To review each of the nominees, visit http://www.edn.com/innovationballot.asp. The deadline for voting is February 1, 2005. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on March 7, 2005 in San Francisco.
