GlaxoSmithKline Licenses MetaBase From GeneGo
Company Licenses MetaBase(TM) Systems Biology Database
ST. JOSEPH, Mich., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- GeneGo, Inc., a leading provider of software and databases for systems biology, today announced that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has licensed MetaBase(TM), GeneGo's database of human biology and medicinal chemistry. MetaBase(TM) represents a comprehensive, manually curated database which covers all levels of human cellular functionality, from GPCRs and other receptors to signal transduction cascades, transcriptional factors, core effector networks, endogenous and xenobiotics metabolism and the relevant bioactive compounds (metabolites and xenobiotics). GSK intends to apply MetaBase(TM) towards a broad range of applications in pre-clinical drug discovery, and to integrate MetaBase(TM) content with their internal informatics systems.
"We are happy that GSK decided to in-license MetaBase(TM) based on its comprehensive coverage and its flexible architecture that will allow them to integrate MetaBase in to their current environment," said Tatiana Nikolskaya, Ph.D., President and CSO of GeneGo. "GSK is known for its strong research record in the areas of molecular modeling and systems biology, and we are pleased that their experts find MetaBase(TM) useful for the internal programs."
About GeneGo
GeneGo is a Michigan-based company developing systems biology technology for life science research. The original computational platform allows an integration and expert analysis of different kinds of experimental data (mRNA expression, proteomics, metabolites, phenotypic data etc.) and relevant active chemistry (metabolites, drugs, other xenobiotics) within the framework of biological pathways and networks. GeneGo's flagship product, MetaCore(TM), assists pharmaceutical scientists in the areas of target selection and validation, identification of biomarkers for disease states and toxicology. The second product, MetaDrug(TM) is designed for prediction of human metabolism and toxicity for novel small molecules compounds. MetaBase(TM) represents the knowledge base for MetaCore(TM).
