Electronic Communications, Compliance and Law Experts Collaborate to Form The Electronic Communications Compliance Council (TE3C)
TE3C a valuable resource and advocate for companies grappling with e-mail and instant messaging policies and compliance
NEW YORK, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Managing e-mail, meeting regulatory compliance requirements and protecting businesses from future litigation are some of the most pressing business issues today. In response to this, industry experts in electronic communications, compliance and law have joined together to form The Electronic Communications Compliance Council (TE3C), a group dedicated to providing best practices and resources to companies grappling with e-mail and instant messaging (IM) policies and compliance.
At its inaugural meeting today in New York, the council conducted a roundtable discussion on why electronic communication compliance will continue to top the list of concerns for businesses in 2005. The founding members of the council include Priscilla Emery, president and founder of e-Nterprise Advisors, Nancy Flynn, founder and executive director of the ePolicy Institute; Richard Marshall, partner, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart; Peter Mafteiu, director of operations, BKD Wealth Advisors; and Paul Chen, president and CEO of Fortiva Inc.
"Businesses can no longer afford to ignore the issues around e-communications, including compliance, e-policy, and archiving," said Priscilla Emery, president and founder of e-Nterprise Advisors. "TE3C will serve as the voice and educational resource for electronic communications compliance issues. Together, we will develop cross-industry positions on issues relevant to privacy, policy, records management, legal issues, IT and e-discovery."
At the roundtable, TE3C also announced a limited-time free offer of Policy Builder by Fortiva(TM), an online tool that offers a comprehensive template solution from which businesses can create their own customized e-mail policy. The tool was developed by Fortiva Inc., a provider of hosted message archiving and compliance solutions, and a founding member of TE3C. Policy Builder is available on the council's Web site, http://www.te3c.org/.
"E-mail and instant messages are increasingly being subpoenaed in lawsuits or regulatory investigations. As such, more organizations are taking a closer look at their e-mail and messaging policies," said Nancy Flynn, executive director of the ePolicy Institute. "Through TE3C, businesses will have access to information and tools like the Policy Builder, to help them address their concerns about e-communications and compliance."
Through regular meetings, roundtables, industry and usage surveys, workgroups and other educational forums, TE3C will work to highlight issues and trends in electronic communications compliance and conduct. In addition, the TE3C Web site will provide links to relevant white papers and educational information, and a forum for those stakeholders that are looking to clarify industry regulations that affect electronic communications.
"Fortiva is a vendor in the e-mail archiving and compliance space, so it was natural for us to become a founding member of TE3C, because the council will address our customers' key concerns," said Paul Chen, president and CEO, Fortiva. "We believe TE3C will be a useful resource and advocate for businesses as they grapple with compliance issues related to e-communications."
