Center for Venture Philanthropy(TM) Explores Art as Therapy in its Venture Van(TM) Tour Series
What: Center for Venture Philanthropy, a division of Peninsula
Community Foundation hosts a new Venture Van Tour: Art as
Therapy: Breaking Through Walls of Isolation. Participants on
this free "campus on wheels" event will witness nonprofits,
government agencies, and philanthropists in action, working
together to help the local community.
Art as Therapy will visit various sites to witness programs
implemented by three organizations, each demonstrating how the
act of creating -- through theater, dance and painting -- serves
as a powerful means of self-expression to specific audiences:
-- Each One Reach One theater program for imprisoned youth
-- Zohar Dance Company's IndependDANCE involving deaf children
in dance
-- Alzheimer's Association's Memories in the Making where
seniors with Alzheimer's create memory-rich paintings.
Why: Art and creative expression can be powerful tools for breaking
through walls of isolation. This tour will demonstrate to
participants how this process has helped a wide range of
isolated individuals explore self-expression and release. It
will also show how our community can work together to help the
most vulnerable among us.
Who: The tour is sponsored by the Center for Venture Philanthropy, a
division of Peninsula Community Foundation(R)
