TowerStream Adds John Hancock Center to Growing Wireless Network in Chicago

TowerStream Adds John Hancock Center to Growing Wireless Network in Chicago

Second Point-of-Presence Offers Businesses Reliable Internet Access From the Sky

NEW YORK, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- TowerStream, the leading fixed wireless Internet provider and WiMAX Forum member, announced today it is expanding its wireless high-speed Internet service to businesses in the Chicago metro area with the addition of a new Point-of-Presence (PoP) on the rooftop of the John Hancock Center in downtown Chicago. The company's addition to their existing network, which also includes the Aon Center, will bring reliable broadband to businesses via a wireless ring high above the city's skyline.

Expanding coverage in its existing markets is one of TowerStream's main goals in 2005. In addition to recently announcing plans to expand into San Francisco, TowerStream's current network of cities includes New York, Boston, Providence/Newport, Los Angeles and Chicago. Business customers in each city are able to connect to TowerStream's wireless broadband Internet service within a ten-mile radius, accessing T-1 and 100 Mbps Internet connections for greater reliability, faster installation and much lower cost than the phone company's wireline networks.

The John Hancock Center PoP will grow TowerStream's Chicago network established in March 2004, making faster and cheaper broadband service available to more business customers.

"We've been using TowerStream as our primary broadband provider for over four months, and our connection hasn't gone down once, despite the sometimes terrible weather conditions in Chicago," said Dan Stratton, President of IT Chicago, Inc., a provider of IT services to small and medium businesses located throughout the United States. "We have also been very pleased with the promptness and personalization of TowerStream's customer service. Getting T1-type service usually takes 30-45 days from the phone companies, and on top of the provisioning delay there may be other costs involved in bringing service to your location, such as having to run new wiring in your building. With Towerstream, we got that same level of service and reliability installed in days by technicians who showed up on time and were very courteous. Better yet, as we grow our clientele if we need to increase our bandwidth, it's simply a phone call away to Towerstream. You can't get that with wired T1 service. Our Internet connection really is the lifeblood of our business- without it we could not operate. That dependability is why we chose TowerStream."

"Since launching service in Chicago last spring, we have signed on hundreds of business customers looking for better high-speed Internet access without being tied to the phone company for service. With this growing demand, we knew that by expanding our coverage area in the city we could offer reliable T1 service to thousands of additional businesses," said Jeff Thompson, COO and Co-Founder of TowerStream. "TowerStream is committed to providing high quality service and customer care that the phone companies just cannot match. For example, our fixed wireless technology offers the ability to prioritize mission critical applications such as VoIP and can be installed in as little as 48 hours. By building out service in Chicago, we remain on track to bring faster, cheaper, more reliable broadband access to businesses in the top markets in the U.S."

TowerStream is a member of the WiMAX Forum and is dedicated to being one of the first service providers to test and ultimately offer WiMAX certified solutions to its customers when available.
