Ivan Purdie Named Managing Director, Europe and Bruce McLaren Takes Seat on The NewsMarket Board
NEW YORK, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Ivan Purdie has been appointed Managing Director, Europe for The NewsMarket (http://www.thenewsmarket.com/). In this new role, Ivan will take responsibility for the Company's European operations with a focus on sales and revenue generation. He will also spend time strengthening relationships with media organizations and develop further partnerships across Europe. The NewsMarket's European operations have previously been managed out of its New York headquarters.
Bruce McLaren has joined The NewsMarket's board of directors. A former founder and the current chairman of Advertising.com International, Bruce's nearly 40 years of experience in the advertising and marketing sector are a valuable addition to The NewsMarket, which is revolutionizing the way journalists receive broadcast-standard video from newsmakers.
Shoba Purushothaman, CEO and co-founder of The NewsMarket says, "We're seeing tremendous demand from European organizations and companies to work with The NewsMarket and we've more than doubled our client base with new accounts such as adidas, Swarovski and the UNHCR. Both these appointments strengthen our European leadership significantly at executive and board level. It also marks the acceleration of our European strategy and expansion going into 2005."
Ivan brings more than 10 years of sales and senior management experience in the content and communications industries. Prior to joining The NewsMarket, Ivan was Executive Vice President of Medialink and Chairman of Teletrax, a global broadcast tracking and monitoring service set up as a joint venture between Philips Electronics and Medialink. Before joining Medialink, Ivan was European Sales and Marketing Manager for Image Bank at Kodak Inc., where he successfully established an online and electronic trading business.
"There is a growing awareness of the power of video images as well as the need to distribute content globally on an 'on-demand' basis," Ivan Purdie notes. "We're seeing organizations such as AP, Google and the BBC devoting resources to online video content business models and strategies. The NewsMarket is uniquely positioned to take advantage of these trends."
Bruce McLaren started as a seed round investor with Advertising.com in 1999 and founded Advertising.com International in 2000. The company was sold to AOL in July 2004. Prior to his involvement with Advertising.com, Bruce spent 22 years in the advertising business and was President, CEO of Ted Bates Europe / Middle East / Africa when it was sold to Saatchi & Saatchi in 1986. Since then, he has been an active private equity investor, concentrating on marketing service companies.
"It is a very exciting time to join The NewsMarket board," says Bruce McLaren. "Over the years, the adoption of new technologies has transformed the advertising and marketing sectors and this is set to continue as marketers realize the potential of PR alongside advertising and other marketing communications methods. Getting images in front of consumers, cost-effectively and efficiently, is crucial, and I believe The NewsMarket has developed the ideal platform to realize this."
