Speak Up For Diversity Claims That Korean Information Security Agency Funds Controversial University Researcher

SEOUL, South Korea, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- An investigation conducted by Speak Up For Diversity (SUFD) alleges that the Korean Information Security Agency (KISA) is granting money to Carnegie Mellon University, USA, despite criticism that the school and its research scientist, David Touretzky, have misused monetary grants. KISA has pledged $6 million to establish CyLab Korea at CMU and in Seoul. CyLab will initiate research projects and develop technologies related to securities for computers and networks.

SUFD refers to an article published by "Citizens Against Government Waste," which states that Touretzky and CMU are apparently wasting government funding. Funding from KISA may also be wasted.

In 2002 President Bush's Homeland Security initiative and the Department of Defense approved a 35.5 million dollar grant to Carnegie Mellon University. President Bush appointed CMU president, Jared Cohon, to the 16-member Homeland Security Advisory Council in June of 2002. SUFD ascertains that the school's website has displayed explosive-making directions and instructions for would-be terrorists. Mr. Touretzky posted the terrorist instructions first on the CMU website, and then on his own.

David Touretzky used CMU's website to mirror the 'Raise the Fist' website. The FBI deemed 'Raise the Fist' as threatening to national security and arrested the creator of that website, Sherman Austin.

SUFD claims that David Touretzky has wasted hundreds of hours on CMU computers, making derogatory statements against religious minorities and racist remarks against ethnic groups.

According to the SUFD investigation, Touretzky's discriminatory remarks include:

"The black underclass is a very, very sick culture ... AA programs can't help the black underclass, because those people are so screwed up they're virtually unemployable."

"It would be cheaper to buy your replacement organs from executed Chinese."

"I'm for post-partum abortion! Retroactive abortion! Up until, say, the age of six months."

SUFD has contacted Jason Won, the Manager of International Affairs at KISA. Mr. Won and KISA were made aware of the fact that Mr. Touretzky and CMU have had a dubious track record regarding the use of their funding. KISA has not yet responded to the concerns raised by SUFD.
