Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) Visits Zebra Technologies to Recognize Company's Leadership in RFID

Durbin to Acknowledge Zebra's Role in Helping to Secure $3.5 Million in Defense Appropriations for RFID and to Address the Benefits RFID Technology Brings to the Department of Defense

VERNON HILLS, Ill., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) will hold a press conference at Zebra Technologies' (NASDAQ:ZBRA) corporate headquarters in Vernon Hills, Ill., to acknowledge Zebra's leadership role in radio frequency identification (RFID) and to address the benefits RFID technology can bring to the Department of Defense (DoD). The Senator's visit to Zebra is in conjunction with the $3.5 million in defense appropriations for RFID projects, which the Senator was instrumental in securing for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2005 federal budget.

These allocated funds will be used by the DoD to implement RFID technology to improve the flow of goods through the DoD supply chain. RFID technology will help ensure that U.S. troops throughout the world obtain the proper equipment, weapons, supplies and food when they are needed.

Zebra, a leader in RFID technology, has been active in educating and demonstrating the value of RFID to Senator Durbin and his team. Zebra is a lead member of the AIM RFID Expert Group, whose proposal was incorporated into the DoD's published RFID shipping label standards. Working with close to 80 percent of companies expected to comply with industry RFID mandates such as those established by the DoD and Wal-Mart, Zebra provided the Senator and his team with real-world examples and insight into RFID technology.
