Dreamhack LAN Party Named Largest Gaming Event by the Guinness Book of World Records

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:EXTR) award-winning networking solutions powered the Guinness Book of World Records' largest gaming party. Dreamhack of Sweden connected 5, 850 computers hosted on a single LAN infrastructure, which relied upon Extreme Networks(R) Unified Access Architecture (UAA) edge and Intelligent Core Architecture switching systems to ensure superior network availability and high bandwidth.

This unique electronic event attracts the world's most dedicated computer gamers and technical experts. Visitors partake in the most popular and challenging multi-player action games such as "Counter-Strike," where network performance and bandwidth is essential as hundreds of players compete simultaneously.

"Extreme Networks delivered the robust, non-stop switching performance allowing Dreamhack to make history," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president of marketing for Extreme Networks. "Our highly reliable 10 Gigabit Ethernet platform flawlessly handled the dynamic traffic and unique needs of this record-breaking event."

All IP routing and switching for the event, held in the city of Jonkoping, was enabled by Extreme Networks' scalable BlackDiamond(R) 10K and Summit(R) 400 switches. The BlackDiamond 10K switch, featuring dense 10 gigabit and Gigabit Ethernet capabilities, delivers superior performance with custom ASICS and a modular approach to software resulting in increased resiliency of the network. The Summit 400 switch delivers 48 ports of 10/100/1000 Ethernet connectivity with dual 10 Gigabit uplinks, providing performance and scalability at the network edge.
