PostWorks, New York Congratulates Client Filmmakers On Selection For the 2005 Sundance Film Festival
NEW YORK, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- PostWorks, New York, a 2005 Sundance Institute Associate, today congratulated several of its clients for having their feature films selected as part of the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. "Murderball," "Romantico," "212" and Kevin Bacon's theatrical feature directorial debut "Loverboy" all have collaborated with PostWorks and its subsidiary Photomag Sound & Image for various aspects of post-production.
"As our country's most important venue for showcasing daring films that celebrate diversity and redefine the aesthetics of cinema, we are very proud to be associated with multiple films showing at the festival," began PostWorks' president Billy Baldwin, who is set to moderate the festival's Post-Production Forum on Jan. 25 at the Sundance Digital Center. He continued, "On behalf of everyone at PostWorks' family of companies, it's our pleasure to extend our congratulations to all the films exhibiting at this year's festival.
Teams at PostWorks and Photomag continue working with "Murderball" directors Henry-Alex Rubin and Dana Adam Shapiro, post-production supervisor Jason Stoff and their colleagues in handling every aspect of the film's post- production, including designing and finishing a complex 5.1 surround mix and creating a final film recording for a 35mm release by Think Films. "This film's technical challenges include multiple source footage formats, frame rates and aspect ratios, all shot over a period of three years," explained Joe Caterini, PostWorks' director of audio services and president of Photomag Sound & Image. "The film also presents an opportunity for some very creative sound work."
"Romantico" director Mark Becker has worked directly with PostWorks and Photomag to create a HD 24P master and final Dolby surround sound mix from his original 16mm source footage. "We're always happy when a client comes to us well ahead of time to prepare for HD finishes," Caterini said. "We were able to consult with Mark and advise on how to prepare his final edit to ensure a smooth film-to-HD transfer and workflow, and how to best prepare his finishing work in anticipation of a future 35mm film record."
PostWorks' team is working on director/screenwriter Anthony Ng's "212" to transfer the film's original Super16 footage, handle tape-to-tape Pogel color- correction in their Digital Intermediate Theater, then title and conform in 24P in Avid's Nitris and output to 1080i HDcam for festival screenings. Finally, for Kevin Bacon's drama "Loverboy," under the post-production supervision of Chris Connolly, PostWorks provided the off-line Avid edit suite for project, and all sound editorial work and final 5.1 surround mixing was completed at Photomag. "For the final mix, in addition to careful dialogue mixing, we focused extensively on the surround elements, which included extensive background sound layers, all mixed in 5.1 surround, as well as a beautiful 5.1 original score by Kevin Bacon's brother, composer Michael Bacon," added Caterini, who served as supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer on the project.
The 2005 Sundance Film Festival will take place Jan. 20-30, 2005, in Park City, Utah. For further information, please visit http://www.sundance.org/.
