FlyOnTheWall Assists the Specialist Schools Trust to Launch Video Website That Addresses the Needs of Disabled Viewers
LONDON, December 8/PRNewswire/ -- The Specialist Schools Trust (www.specialistschools.org.uk)
launches its online video site to celebrate best practice in vocational
teaching and learning today. It is the first online video from the Trust that
fully supports the ethos of The Disability Discrimination Act.
To ensure the widest possible reach and to coincide with the
implementation of The Disability Discrimination Act, the Trust commissioned
FlyOnTheWall - Europe's leading Internet broadcasting company, to incorporate
nine supporting videos produced by Eelyn Lee Productions into an online
environment that would also address the accessibility requirements of
disabled online users.
The website offers high quality video, supported by synchronised text and
images that can be manipulated by users to suit their own requirements.
Fast becoming the bedrock of the 14-19 curriculum, vocational teaching
and learning is now an exciting option for students wanting a more hands-on
learning experience.
GCSEs in vocational subjects offer a positive vocational learning
opportunity for students of all abilities, with increased motivation and
improved attitudes reported from schools and OfSTED.
Jason Gleave, CEO of FlyOnTheWall, said: "It has been a great opportunity
to utilise the skills of the FlyOnTheWall team in this project to demonstrate
the potential that streaming media production has to answer the accessibility
issues. The ability to converge video, audio, images and text over the
Internet provides a powerful method of engaging with your online user whoever
they may be."
Heather Sillitoe of the Specialist Schools Trust, said: "We have been
delighted at the professionalism of the webcasting solution and the
integration of the tools necessary for us to at least start to address the
needs of the entire online audience - we know we have more to do and we will
continue to support these initiatives to achieve our objectives"
The online video is accessed by a broadcast microsite;
www.schoolsnetwork.org.uk/learntowork created and managed by FlyOnTheWall. It
acts as a portal to the video and all the supporting materials. Whether the
visitor has disabilities or not the design and configuration and use of
features such as multi-format video optimised for both broadband and modem
users, synchronised subtitling, transcripts and the ability for text
re-sizing allows all visitors to become involved.

(The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) aims to end the discrimination
