Widevine Technologies(R) Ranked as Leader in Conditional Access for Telco/IP Platforms
ABI Research Study Says Company 'Outranks' Legacy Leaders NDS, Nagravision
SEATTLE, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Widevine Technologies(R), the largest provider of content security solutions to the video over IP market and inventor of the Cypher Virtual SmartCard(TM), has been cited as the leader in conditional access for Telco/IP platforms according to a new study by ABI Research. The market research report can be found on the web at http://www.abiresearch.com/reports/CADR.html .
Vamsi Sistla, ABI's director of broadband and residential entertainment technologies, said, "It is evident that the legacy leaders such as NDS, Nagravision, Motorola, Scientific Atlanta and Irdeto are trailing at present in the emerging platforms. But the race has just begun. These rankings could change.
"Service providers should revisit their drawing boards," added Sistla, "in the light of newer vendors who could meet or beat their expectations just as the legacy vendors have done in the past."
This report comes on the heels of Market Research Associates' IP TV Market Leader Report ranking Widevine a "Leader in IP TV." Widevine is one of a few companies that support a large number of subscribers with the other competitors supporting significantly fewer the report states.
"The rapid acceptance in the global marketplace of Widevine's content security solution has been a strong validation of the technical approach Widevine has taken," said Brian Baker, President and CEO of Widevine Technologies. "Widevine recognized early on that the legacy approach to security was not going to enable new business models and distribution methods. Now the operators are recognizing it, too."
The Widevine Cypher solution significantly lowers the costs of securing content over video networks while dramatically raising the bar on piracy. It allows full protection of media throughout distribution, because it is transparent, it provides persistent encryption. The result is better delivery models such as VOD, PVR, NPVR and even Home Video Networks. Premium content owners have been reluctant in the past to support these services due to a lack of solid security. Widevine Cypher solves that need.
