400 Tubby Tubas to Toot Timely Terrific Tunes in the Palmer House Hilton!

WHO: 400 -- count 'em -- tuba players ranging from 10 to 80 years of
age!

WHAT: Performing "Merry TubaChristmas -- A Concert of Christmas Music,"
orchestrated solely for the Tuba in honor of famed musician
Arthur Bell.

WHERE: The Grand Ballroom of the Palmer House Hilton.

WHEN: Noon, Wednesday, December 22th.

WHY: First performed in 1974 at New York's Rockefeller Center,
TubaChristmas has become an annual -- albeit unusual -- Christmas
concert because of its unorthodox instrumentation make-up.
Created by Indiana Music Professor Harvey Phillips, known as the
"Paganini of the Tuba," as a salute to the aforementioned Bell
who was born on Christmas Day, 1902, and the late composer Alec
Wilder, first arranger of TubaChristmas, who died on Christmas
Eve, 1980.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

TubaChristmas has become a holiday tradition in Chicago since its
inception 25 years ago. Having nearly 400 tubas in the same place at the
same time is by itself a highly unique happening. When all of these
tubas are playing Holiday music and Christmas carols, it becomes the stuff
that goes in the Guinness Book of World Records. It is one of the most
visual compelling musical experiences ever to take place anywhere! Superb
vantage points for TV crews and still photographers from the balcony over
looking the concert area.
