Frankly Launches Apple TV OTT App with NBC and CBS Station KUAM

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 1, 2016 /CNW/ --Frankly Inc.(TSX VENTURE: TLK) (Frankly), a leading content, engagement and monetization platform for brands and media companies, launched an Apple TV OTT app for KUAM-TV, Guam's affiliate for NBC and CBS.

The KUAM News big-screen experience joins the station's Frankly-powered website and native mobile apps for iOS and Android.

Viewers can use the Apple TV app to:

-- Watch the stories, segments, shows, and series from KUAM News.
-- Voice search with Siri to find specific clips from the latest broadcast
or the back catalog of past KUAM News videos.
-- "Press play and step away" (auto-play clips for a leanback experience),
or browse categories like News, Sports, Specials, and more.
-- Check the weather with detailed 10-day forecasts broken down
hour-by-hour.

The app is available for consumers to download on the App Store of the 4th generation Apple TV. If a viewer has already installed the KUAM News mobile app for iPhone, the app will be easily accessible on Apple TV under "Purchased Apps" in the App Store - no searching required.

KUAM is the first and oldest TV station in the US territory of Guam, founded in 1956. "We're thrilled to welcome this new addition to our growing family of digital experiences," said Jason Salas, Interactive Media Director at KUAM News. "We now have viewer touchpoints on TV, mobile, and desktop. This Apple TV app in particular opens us up to a global audience of 'big screens,' where both locals and expatriates around the world can just as easily tune in to the latest dispatch from their familiar home station and catch up on favorite past-aired programs from the comfort of their living rooms. This has effectively allowed us to extend our reach of daily viewers far beyond what we normally have over cable...it's an overall great complement to our cloud ecosystem."

The Frankly Apple TV app is the first in a series of OTT apps designed specifically for local broadcasters, with Roku and Amazon Fire to come soon. Frankly announced its OTT app framework at this year's NAB convention in Las Vegas, bringing another digital experience to its existing portfolio of apps for web and mobile.

"We've designed the Apple TV app to be one facet of a consistent user experience across web, mobile, and television," said Steve Chung, CEO of Frankly. "We're excited to see our first partner stations, like KUAM, customizing their Apple TV apps and making them available for download. At Frankly, we're continuing to develop the platform, and future releases will include video live streaming and DFP pre-roll ads to help broadcasters monetize OTT video."
