CHICAGO, July 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribune Broadcasting today announced Kerry Oslund has been named VP, Strategy and Business Development. Oslund will be responsible for driving results in the areas of strategy, business development and operational execution across Tribune Broadcasting to help define how the stations support marketers, consumers and partners across the media landscape. Oslund will join the company on July 25, reporting to Larry Wert, President/Broadcast Media.

Oslund most recently served as Senior Vice President of Publishing and Emerging Media for Schurz Communications where he led the company's M&A and strategic partnership divisions.

"Kerry has both the vision and the operational experience to help Tribune Broadcasting redefine how we serve our audiences and customers," said Wert. "He is an innovative leader with a record of success in both linear and digital media and we look forward to having his expertise shape our role in the future of television."

"Tribune Media has successful, diverse, media assets and scale. Even more tantalizing to me are its remarkable new opportunities to unlock value and further grow. Under all its heft, Tribune's leaders have created a culture of quality embracing creativity, curiosity and an original-style of courageous thinking. I'm privileged to soon be a part of it," said Oslund.

Prior to joining Schurz Communications, Oslund was VP of New Media for Gannett Broadcasting where he focused on new opportunities in information delivery and business development on emerging platforms. He was also the digital liaison between Gannett Broadcasting, USA Today, Gannett US-Community Publishing, Legal and M&A. Prior to that, Oslund was Corporate News Director for Lee Enterprises, with oversight responsibilities for seven network affiliate TV stations, as well as News Director responsibilities for Lee's flagship, KOIN-TV, in Portland, Oregon. Oslund also worked in Los Angeles as an Executive Producer for the Walt Disney Company and helped create, then supervise, KCAL-TV's "Prime 9 News." He has also held Producer and Executive Producer assignments for Gannett, in Atlanta.

His work in newsrooms has been honored with six Emmys Awards, two Golden Microphone Awards, a dozen Associated Press Awards and the National Association of Black Journalists highest award for International Coverage.

Oslund holds degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Statistics from Arizona State University where he worked as a local newscast producer for the CBS affiliate in Phoenix, joining that station full-time after graduating. In 2015, he was awarded a Knight-Cronkite Innovation grant from the university for his work on mobile proximity triggering technologies (Beacon, RFID, GPS) for media companies.

In 2014, at the National of Association of Broadcasters convention, Broadcasting & Cable Magazine honored Oslund with its Technology Leadership Award. In 2013, the same publication featured Oslund on its cover, as one of the industry's "Next Wave of Leaders."

Oslund also helped create the Mobile 500, a coalition of broadcasters working to advance commercial and policy aspects of Mobile DTV. He is co-inventor of RedPost, a digital-out-of-home advertising display & audience measurement system currently in over 400 retail locations.
