David G. Ellen To Join Charter As Senior Executive Vice President

STAMFORD, Conn., July 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR) today announced that David G. Ellen has joined the company as Senior Executive Vice President. In this new position, Ellen will oversee several business and corporate functions including Programming, News & Sports Networks, Strategic Policy Development, Regulatory Compliance, Human Resources, Communications and Security. He will also oversee the legal support for Programming, News & Sports Networks, Product, Strategic Policy Development and Labor Relations. He will be based at Charter's Stamford, CT headquarters and report to Chairman and CEO Tom Rutledge. Ellen joins Charter from Cablevision, where he served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel until the completion of Cablevision's sale to Altice in June.

"David brings a wealth of industry experience and expertise to Charter and a history of innovative thinking and successful execution," said Chairman and CEO Tom Rutledge. "His grasp of the component pieces of our business - including how our business strategy around programming and content must be developed in the context of a complex and changing environment - and his proven senior leadership skills will make him an invaluable asset to Charter as we continue to grow," he added. "We couldn't be more excited about David's arrival."

At Cablevision, Ellen was a member of the senior executive leadership team responsible for helping the CEO guide all aspects of Cablevision's business. As Cablevision's General Counsel, he worked closely with engineers and product developers on several industry-leading initiatives, leading the company's successful legal defense of its cloud-based DVR product as well as the legal strategy supporting the rollout of in-home streaming of the company's entire cable service to IP-enabled devices. He was also a forceful legal advocate for the use of content - especially local and regional content -- as a product differentiator among competitive distributors.

Before Cablevision, Ellen served in executive roles as Deputy General Counsel at IAC, the multi-brand media and Internet company, and General Counsel of Eureka Broadband, a private New York-based telecommunications company.

Prior to his career in the private sector, Ellen was a special counsel at the Federal Communications Commission working on the implementation of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 as well as a law clerk for Judges Stephen Breyer and Judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg when they were on the U.S. Court of Appeals and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor during her time on the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was President of the Harvard Law Review, was a Marshall Scholar at Cambridge University and has a B.A. from Harvard University.
