CRTC launches review of the Wireless Code of Conduct

Canadians invited to share their views on the Wireless Code's effectiveness

GATINEAU, QC, July 28, 2016 /CNW/ - The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today invited Canadians to participate in its review of the Wireless Code. The review will also include a public hearing that will begin on February 6, 2017, in the National Capital Region.

Established in 2013, the Code promotes a dynamic marketplace by empowering Canadians to make informed choices about their wireless services and establishing standards for industry behaviour. The Code addresses the clarity of contracts, ensures cancellation fees are clearly explained and limits the risk of bill shock, among other things.

Now that the Code has been in effect for nearly three years, the CRTC is evaluating its effectiveness and accepting comments until September 26, 2016. Canadians can start participating in the process today by:

-- filling out the online form;
-- writing to the Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario K1A ON2; or
-- sending a fax to (819) 994-0218.
Canadians will also have the opportunity to share their opinions and engage in discussion on the Wireless Code through an online discussion forum from September 13 to 26, 2016. Details will be announced at a later date.

"The Wireless Code has helped Canadians better understand their wireless services and make informed choices. While we have been tracking its effectiveness, we want to hear directly from Canadians about their experiences with their service providers and the Code.
