Lyft Launches Ghost Mode with Sony Pictures to Celebrate 'Ghostbusters' Release

Lyft's largest multi-city activation to date will bring the iconic Ecto-1 to passengers in NYC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington D.C.

SAN FRANCISCO, June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- You no longer need a jumpsuit and a proton pack to hitch a ride in the Ecto-1. In celebration of summer's highly anticipated reboot of Ghostbusters, in theaters July 15, today Lyft and Sony Pictures announce a collaboration to launch Ghost Mode, an option in the Lyft app that will offer Ecto-1 rides to passengers in cities across the country.

On Friday, July 1, and Saturday, July 2, from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. local time, passengers in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington D.C. can toggle into Ghost Mode and request a free ride in an Ecto-1 car. Ghost Mode will feature both original Ecto-1's from the new film as well as replicas.

Lyft passengers who catch a ride in Ghost Mode will also have the chance to take home in-car swag and giveaways, such as Hi-C Ecto Coolers and Ghostbusters-themed Twinkies by Hostess. Two lucky winners will take home the grand prize of two tickets each to the Ghostbusters World Premiere in Los Angeles on July 9th.

"We're thrilled to see such a classic franchise return to theaters with an all-new cast and characters, and are equally as excited to team up with Sony Pictures to bring the movie to the streets," said Ethan Eyler, Innovation Brand Manager at Lyft. "Lyft loves to surprise and delight passengers with fun, memorable in-car experiences. Following the success of Back to the Future Mode, Zombie Mode, and Prank Mode, we expect this to be the best yet."

"Up until now, you had to be a Ghostbuster to catch a ride in the Ecto-1," said Dwight Caines, president, Theatrical Marketing for Sony Pictures. "Ghostbusters is a great experience for all audiences, and now, with this amazing collaboration with Lyft, moviegoers of all ages all across the country will be able to experience that feeling of being a Ghostbuster. No matter the destination, Lyft riders using Ghost Mode will be arriving in style."
