Lifestyle Club 451life Announces Unique Film Series With Iconic Plantswoman, Beth Chatto

Lifestyle Club 451life Announces Unique Film Series With Iconic Plantswoman, Beth Chatto

LONDON, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

Online members club 451life (http://www.451life.com) have released a three-part
series featuring renowned gardener and plantswoman, Beth Chatto.

The series follows Beth Chatto discussing her groundbreaking work through her
world-famous gardens at Elmstead Market in Essex.

Lorraine Dickey, 451life founder, says "We are thrilled to have this opportunity to
share this wonderful series of films with Beth Chatto, made originally for the archive at
the Garden Museum. Beth's work has been an inspiration for so many gardeners and garden
designers and it was a privilege to create this online-only film series for viewers to see
her work at Elmstead Market."

In the revealing and rare interview, Chatto narrates all three films as she takes
451life around the gardens, talking of her simple childhood in Essex where her love of
plants such as snowdrops and lily of the valley developed through to her early days and
her experience of exhibiting at the RHS for the first time, as a flower arranger.

"All my gardens have a story," she says as she explains the thinking behind each
garden, highlighting the features of each one - from the lush foliage of the Damp Garden,
to her favourite 'family' of plants in the Reservoir Garden, the storms that destroyed the
Woodland Garden and lastly her most famous creation, the Gravel Garden.

Beyond the gardens, Chatto talks of her main influences, particularly artist and
gardener, Sir Cedric Morris as well as her subsequent success at Chelsea in the late 1970s
when she started her record-breaking run of ten consecutive gold medals in the Great
Marquee.

Talking directly about her experience at the Chelsea Flower Show, Chatto discloses "I
would work on Chelsea in a way, all year round, getting the plants ready, thinking about
it, planning it."

Chatto is amused by the fact that her once seemingly novelty showcase is now a common
theme at flower shows. "Fifty years ago, certainly when I first started the garden and the
nursery, I was a novelty, but now I know I'm not,' she states.

Although she claims not to have coined the phrase, 'the right plant for the right
place', it does, she admits, sum up her gardening ethos perfectly.

The three-part series 'Beth Chatto' first appeared on 451life to coincide with the RHS
Chelsea Flower show 2016.
