TORONTO, May 17, 2016 /CNW/ - PortsToronto is thrilled to announce that Sail-In Cinema - Toronto's only outdoor floating film event - is back, returning to Sugar Beach August 18-20. For the community's enjoyment, the free, floating festival will once again showcase the world's first two-sided floating movie experience of its size from a barge anchored in Lake Ontario. The theme for this year's event is "Books to Big Screen" and will feature three films derived from books. The final line-up of films will be selected through a public vote being launched mid-June.
Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. each night with the film starting at approximately 8:00 p.m. A program of pre-film fun for all ages, including giveaways, entertainment and treats will once again be offered by Sail-In Cinema sponsors.
Celebrating its sixth year, PortsToronto's Sail-In Cinema has grown to become a "not-to-be-missed" summer outing for the entire family, attracting up to 11,000 people on land and 100 boats over the three-day period. This year's event promises a truly memorable cinematic experience with custom configured audio and cinema-quality digital projectors. Audiences will have the opportunity to view their favourite films on a two-sided inflatable screen with a 40x20-foot viewing surface, which sits in a four-story frame and weighs more than 700 lbs. making it one of the largest outdoor movie screens in North America. The screen will sit on a 60x90-foot barge that was custom-made for the Sail-In Cinema event.
"PortsToronto is delighted to once again invite Torontonians to the waterfront in celebration of film and summer fun," said Deborah Wilson, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs. "Sail-In Cinema will offer the public the unique chance to watch their favourite movies, from land or water, on an enormous, floating screen under open skies. With this year's theme of "Books to Big Screen" movie-goers will have the opportunity to experience - or re-experience - some of their favourite stories in a very unique way."
PortsToronto is delighted to have new and returning partners this year including Toyota, Redpath Sugar, Christie Digital, CP24, the Toronto Star, Porter Airlines and The Waterfront BIA.
