NYCGMC Presents It's Complicated Exploring Gay "Coupledom" in the 21st Century, June 17 at 8pm
NEW YORK, May 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New York City Gay Men's Chorus today announced their latest concert, It's Complicated, stories and songs celebrating love in the 21(st) century. A year on from achieving marriage equality, It's Complicated celebrates love in its entire magical, messy, mad, and magnificent splendor. By weaving stories and song, It's Complicated opens a window into the lives of some fascinating people whose stories will forever change the perspective of your own relationships. It's Complicated explores the ins and outs of "coupledom" which NYCGMC defines as two people who have acknowledged to live their lives connected with each other, no matter what title they give the relationship.
Tickets are now on sale for It's Complicated, playing June 17 at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.
"Five years ago, a gay men's chorus concert about relationships would have focused on equality and the fight for our human right to openly and legally love the people we choose," said Charlie Beale, Artistic Director of the NYCGMC. "As much as we value that message and struggle, we devised this show with the assumption that, while that campaign was happening publicly, the people in our community were already having relationships. We wanted to look at how people love, really."
It's Complicated will feature an eclectic mix of songs from Frank Sinatra, to A Great Big World, to The Eagles. Having interviewed many couples from a wide variety of relationships, NYCGMC will explore the variety of paths couples travel through life together, how they communicate, how they navigate shared space, how they maintain individuality, and the new choice of whether marriage is in their future.
It's Complicated will be performed at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at 8pm Friday June 17. Tickets are now available here or visit nycgmc.org.
