IRVING, Texas, May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- For fans hungry for the return of Discovery Channel's Shark Week ... or just plain hungry, 7-Eleven, Inc. is taking a bite out of the 28th annual TV mega-event with a tasty 8-week promotion. Shark Week airs Sunday, June 26, through Sunday, July 3.

Shark swag includes Slurpee shark straws, 28-ounce shark bite cups, 32-ounce fishbowl cups and "Stay Hot" shark-themed coffee cups, along with Blue Raspberry-flavored Slurpee drinks, 7-Select(®) Blue Gummi Sharks and shark-themed donuts. To create a feeding frenzy at participating stores, 7-Eleven(®) also has created delicious snack combinations and weekly offers on popular food and beverages. The collaboration with Discovery Channel and its "Shark 'n' Awe" Shark Week programming continues the yearlong Slurpee Fiftee celebration.

"We were looking for a fun way to kick off summer, to showcase our food and beverage variety and continue our Slurpee Fiftee celebration. Like the Slurpee drink, Shark Week is a highly social event, with friends getting together to watch and share their favorite content on social media," said Laura Gordon, 7-Eleven vice president of marketing and brand innovation. "We are creating a feeding frenzy among Shark Week fans with unique shark products they can only find at 7-Eleven, and great food and beverage offers that will satisfy their snack attack."

First airing in 1988, Shark Week draws a cult-like following each year. An estimated 44 million viewers tuned into the Discovery Channel for a week of "Shark 'n' Awe" last year, making it the No. 1 network every night during the 8-day spectacle. "Shark Week" was also the No. 1 social media trending topic during its 2015 run.

In the meantime, Americans can wipe out their thirst and sharpen their appetites. The retailer will be promoting a meal deal that includes two generous slices of pizza and a Super Big Gulp(® )fountain drink for just $3.

Here's what Sharkaholics will find at participating 7-Eleven stores:

7-Eleven Takes a Bite Out of its Cups ... Literally

Chomp! Exclusive, molded Slurpee and Big Gulp(®) cups appear to have a 3D jagged bite taken out of the side without springing a leak! The refillable cups come in red for Big Gulp fountain drinks and clear for Slurpee frozen beverages. Suggested retail price is $4.99 and includes the first fill free. A nonrefillable, Stay Hot shark cup - without bite - is also available for hot beverages.

Slurpee Life in a Fishbowl

Slurpee lovers can enjoy a refreshing Blue Raspberry Slurpee drink in the 32-ounce fishbowl-shaped cup. Throw in some 7-Select Blue Gummi Sharks to swim around the ice cold sea of blue. Suggested retail price of the fishbowl cup is $3.99, and the Gummi Sharks are $1.29.

Scare the Shark out of Someone with Limited Edition Slurpee Straws

Show off a shark-eating grin with one of four limited edition, shark mouth Slurpee straws. Available at participating stores while supplies last, the sharkadelic straws are $1.49 each.

Rollin' in the Deep Blue Raspberry Donut

7-Eleven is making Shark Week a little sweeter with a Blue Raspberry Slurpee donut. The fruit-flavored cake donut is topped with blue icing and sugar crystals and goes great with fresh-brewed 7-Eleven coffee in a Stay Hot shark cup. Suggested retail price for the new Slurpee donut is 99 cents.

Serving up Facebook Snack Hacks

Short "Hacks on Snacks" (#HACKSONSNACKS) videos show how to make fun and tasty creations with 7-Eleven sips and snacks. Viewers can expect the unexpected in the snack hack videos appearing on Facebook and Instagram.

Feed Your Snack Attack with Delicious Deals Weekly

Weekly jaw-dropping deals will appear in the 7-Eleven app each Wednesday during the 8-week promotion. Customers can get the Hacks on Snacks freebies by scanning their 7Rewards bar code when purchasing select products shown in the app. The digital coupons for free-with-purchase Slurpee and Big Gulp drinks, chips, candy and more offer delicious combinations to fend off a snack attack.

"We are thrilled to be collaborating with 7-Eleven on Discovery's longest-running franchise, Shark Week," said Lauren Gastwirth, vice president, client and brand partnerships, ad sales, Discovery Communications. "With such a loyal audience and large fan base, Shark Week is TV's must see summer event and we are excited to help drive brand awareness for 7-Eleven and bring our passionate fans from across the country into their stores."

7-Eleven will run television spots on the Discovery Channel during Shark Week, as well as sponsor "Shark after Dark," the hit late night talk show hosted by director/actor Eli Roth. Running June 26-30, the half-hour show highlights the night's programming and teases the next day's lineup with shark experts, fans and celebrity guests.

"Shark fans can really make waves at their shark-viewing party with Blue Raspberry Slurpee drinks and our exclusive 7-Eleven shark straws and cups," Gordon said. "And to make a real shark statement, they can take and post Slurpee selfies sporting their favorite shark straw in front of special shark-themed displays at participating stores."
