Film in California Conference to Present Inaugural Golden Slate Award to Ryan Murphy

Creator of "American Horror Story," "Scream Queens" and "Glee" Will be Among Industry Leaders at May 21 Conference to Celebrate Filming in California

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --More than 500 entertainment industry professionals are expected to attend the 9(th) Annual Film in California Conference on May 21, which will be expanded this year to include presentation to Writer-Director-Producer Ryan Murphy of the first-ever California Golden Slate Award.

Murphy will be honored with the inaugural award for his commitment to filming in California and the thousands of production-related jobs he has created in the Golden State. His many California projects include "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson," "Nip/Tuck," "Glee," "American Horror Story" and "Scream Queens" (the latter two recently relocated production to California from Louisiana). The award will be presented by Jamie Lee Curtis, who currently stars with Emma Roberts in "Scream Queens."

The Film in California Conference has grown considerably in recent years, making it the largest event focused on helping film, TV, commercial and new media professionals learn how to leverage California's vast production resources. This year's conference will also feature a full-day of expert panels and presentations, including an opening session led by Writer-Director-Actor Dax Shepard on making the upcoming CHiPs movie (based on the iconic 1970s TV series). Additional speakers and panelists will be announced soon.

"This year's Film in California Conference will be held amid a surge in production due to the state's expanded tax credit program," said Amy Lemisch, executive director of the California Film Commission. "Our goal for the conference is to ensure that production decision makers are up-to-speed on everything we have to offer - from our tax credit program to our incredibly diverse locations."

The Film in California Conference is co-produced by the California Film Commission and Film Liaisons in California Statewide (FLICS) - a network of 40-plus film commissioners from throughout California.

"The Conference is a great opportunity for industry professionals to learn, network and connect with film commissioners from across the state," added FLICS President Cassandra Hesseltine. "It's all about helping them make their next project a success."

For the second consecutive year, the Film in California Conference will be hosted by CBS Studio Center (Radford) in Studio City. Conference sponsors include Santa Clarita Studios, Cinelease, Disney's Golden Oak Ranch, Fox Audience Strategy and Blue Cloud Movie Ranch. The Hollywood Reporter serves as media sponsor.
