MONTRÉAL, Sept. 29, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - First Nations filmmakers and the Wapikoni Mobile team invite members of the media to discover our new crop of shorts for 2015. The launch will take place as part of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma on October 8 at 6 p.m. in the Hydro-Quebec Agora of UQAM's Coeur des Sciences complex.

16 directors from 9 Aboriginal communities will be on site to present their films. A not-to-be-missed opportunity to hear the point of view of promising First Nations filmmakers about issues that touch them directly.

The evening will feature musical performances by singer-songwriter Émile Proulx-Cloutier and Innu poet Natasha Kanapé Fontaine.

The two Bell Media audience awards and the Télé-Québec-La Fabrique culturelle involvement award will be presented to their recipients following the screenings.

Since 2004, Wapikoni has initiated 3500 participants from 29 communities of 9 First Nations to filmmaking. These participants have produced 850 shorts, receiving 90 awards and mentions in festivals around the world. In 2014, Wapikoni Mobile was awarded the Intercultural Innovation Award by the United Nations and the BMW Group.

Wapikoni Mobile representatives are available for interviews.
