WHAT: Creative Visions hosts Turn On LA, Thursday, October 8 at Casa Del
Mar - a celebration of creative activism honoring an impressive
slate of journalists, filmmakers and artists who are making an
extraordinary impact on critical and social issues through the power
of media and the arts. Hosted by film director Jon Turteltaub (Cool
Runnings, Last Vegas, National Treasure), Turn On LA is billed as
"not your average gala." It's a high-energy, entertaining and
inspirational event meant to honor and engage people in supporting
those that tell stories about problems that need to be solved around
the world. Highlights include a showcase of award-winning
filmmakers, live music from singer/songwriter LP and a world
exclusive first look at the long-awaited Hollywood film, Journey,
about the late photojournalist and activist Dan Eldon.
WHO: This year's honorees include parents of slain journalist James Foley
whose mother, Diane Foley, will accept the Dan Eldon Courage in
Journalism Award, Geralyn Dreyfous, producer of the Academy Award-
winning Born Into Brothels and the force behind ten documentary
films presented at Sundance this year. Alejandra Amarilla, Juliana
Penaranda-Loftus and Brad Allgood - SXSW award-winning filmmakers
of Landfill Harmonic, a testament to the transformative power of
music and the resilience of the human spirit - will also be
recognized.
Other notables include: Kathy Eldon and Amy Eldon Turteltaub, co-
founders of Creative Visions and mother and sister of Dan Eldon,
environmental activist Robert Kennedy Jr. and his wife actress
Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Think Like A Man Too), actors
