Though an icon in England, few people know just how incredible Stanley Matthews life and career were… He was the first ever winner of the prestigious Ballon D'or award, the first footballer to be knighted by the Queen of England, and the only player in the history of modern sports to play professionally for over thirty-five years. Though the game took place over sixty years ago, Sports Illustrated recently deemed Matthews' performance in the 1953 FA Cup, deemed 'The Matthews Final', "one of the most dominant performances of all time".

A teetotaling vegetarian, Matthews renowned training regimen and personal discipline were light years ahead of their time. The quintessential sportsman, Stanley Matthews was never booked or sent off in his nearly four decades of play and his signature 'Matthews Move' made him the first global sports superstar in an era that pre-dates television and internet.

But, it was what Matthews did off the pitch that truly set him apart from the others. Beginning in 1953, Stanley Matthews traveled to Africa as a football ambassador and began coaching kids in the villages and townships. The King of Ghana honored his contributions to Ghana's youth by presenting him with a crown and deeming him the 'King of Football'. Matthews went on to defy the apartheid South African government to coach all-black youth teams in the impoverished townships of Johannesburg. He would later form an all-black semi-professional team known as 'Sir Stan's Men' and take them to train with Pele and Zico in Brazil.

The film uses interviews from British footballing legends like Gary Lineker and Sir Bobby Charlton as well as notable celebrities like Michael Parkinson and Sir Richard Branson to fully explore the life story that has made Sir Stanley Matthews a legend.

The film will be complete by January 2016 and is currently seeking global distribution partnerships.
