Ayse Taspinar Performs at Concert to Launch Arts Initiative in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Pianist Ayse Taspinar and other world-renown Turkish and international musicians participated at a concert to launch a new initiative in support of Turkish arts on Saturday, Sept. 12. The event was hosted by the Turkish Consulate in L.A. and organized by Turkish-American Artist Bridge (TAAB), a new non-profit organization.
The concert is part of a series of events whose mission is to encourage collaboration between Turkish and international artists. The evening began with a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in recent events in Turkey and around the world.
"I am honored to be hosting these very talented artists," said Gulru Gezer, Consul General of Turkey in L.A. "Music and art can unify people and this initiative will help to strengthen ties between Turkey and the U.S. as well as between Turkish Americans and other communities here in California."
She added that as part of this initiative, she is working with individuals and organizations like TAAB on further promotional events.
Also headlining the evening was award-winning opera singer and event organizer, Demetra Mustafaoglu, tenor Eduardo Villa and pianist Wayne Bhlendorf. The concert featured other performances by Turkish-Cypriot flute soloist and composer Burak Besir, Greek guitarist Dmitris Mahlis, Turkish pianist Emir Isilay, Azeri singer Vahid Bayat and pop vocalists Deniz Ahmadinia and Devran Kovacoglu.
Taspinar's performances included music by a range of jazz as well as classical Ottoman and Western composers who visited Turkey.
"It is wonderful for artists to come together and represent Turkey abroad in this way," Taspinar said. "I was very honored to be part of this milestone gala."
TAAB is a recently-formed L.A.-based charity with the goal of promoting cross-cultural collaboration between artists and musicians in Turkey and the U.S.
"We aim to encourage the development of Turkish artists in all fields by promoting the work that they do," said Sena Denktas, founder and President of TAAB. "Our first goal is to help artists participate in national, local and independent events in each country from exhibitions to concerts to film screenings."
