PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for August 19, 2015.
Tom Cruise in Paramount's "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation" maintained the number one position both worldwide and in the international territories for the third straight weekend. The fifth in the franchise, this "Mission" is now closing in on the $400 million mark globally.
In North American action, Universal Pictures does it again with "Straight Outta Compton" debuting at number one with $60.2 million, becoming the biggest R-rated August debut in box office history. Paramount's "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation" in its third weekend adds another $17.2 million, while Warner Bros.' big screen remake of the classic TV series "Man From U.N.C.L.E." makes its debut with $13.4 million. On this week's Movies on Demand chart, Lionsgate's YA action-adventure "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" leads the way, while Fox's Dreamworks Animation release, "Home" moves to second place. In third, Fox's ever-popular "Kingsman: The Secret Service" moves up from the fourth position last week.
On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Fox's Dreamworks animation release "Home" climbed up the charts in its sixth week of release into the number one position. "Get Hard," the Warner Bros.' comedy starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, continues to make its mark by holding onto the second position after a full eight weeks in release. Fox's "True Story," a movie based on actual events about a disgraced New York Times reporter who meets an accused killer, debuts strong in third place.
On our DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales chart this week, Lionsgate's YA action-adventure "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" debuts at number one, while Dreamworks Animation's family-favorite "Home" drops to second place in its second week on the chart.
This week on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals side of the ledger, Will Ferrell in Warner Bros.' "Get Hard" holds on to the top spot for the second straight week, while Lionsgate's "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" proves its appeal across many small screen platforms.
On our top viewer engagement for broadcast telecasts chart, Telemundo's "El Senor de los Cielos" reclaims the number one spot this week and proves its never-ending popularity, while two other Telemundo shows round out the top three with "Tierra de Reyes" and "Caso cerrado - Edicion especial" taking second and third place.
Our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts chart shows TNT's "Major Crimes" at the top of the chart again this week and in a bit of chart deja vu is once again followed by TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles" and VH1's "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" in third.
Finally, on our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, a "TeachingCenter" skit highlighting the exciting world of pro teaching featured on Comedy Central's "Key & Peele" was the most watched clip, gaining 5M+ views on YouTube. On NBC's "America's Got Talent," Marlon Wayans hit the golden buzzer this week for Ventriloquist Paul Zerdin and the video was uploaded to YouTube, gaining 1.5M+ views. ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" continued to ignite its fan base in preparation of its summer season finale, as an Instagram photo teasing fans received 191k+ interactions.
